We continued our discussion on the Trans-Atlantic slave trade today, while focusing on how the slave trade ended. Students were exposed to three different versions of the “voyage”. The first article included the narrative of Olaudah Equino, a primary account of a slave that endured the Middle Passage. The second article focused on excerpts from the letters of Affonso, the King of Kongo, while the third included an European account from John Barbot, an agent for the French Royal African Company. Students were able to gain a better understanding of the African slave trade after reviewing all three accounts.
After reviewing all three of the accounts, students looked at the European/Slave advantages as well as the European/Slave disadvantages of the slave trade.
A Friendly Reminder: Chapter 17: Section 3 notes are due tomorrow, 1/22.
