Answering the EQ

Question20mark1 Wow!…
The S.T.A.R.s shined ever so brightly today! All classes did an excellent job with the carousel brainstorming activity that we completed in order to answer the essential question: How does where you live affect how you live? We began by looking at physical geography in regards to Japan’s geographical location, landforms and bodies of water, climate and vegetation, and natural resources. Groups took the discussion one step further by viewing the physical geography as "causes" that explain the Japanese culture. With this supporting evidence, YOU are now ready and able to answer the essential question.

I have posted the answers to your graphic organizer, so that you can see if your group was correct. Please make sure that your answers match my answers by Monday. Be careful before you print, the document is on legal size paper. Click Download japan_preview_ans.doc

Important news & notes:
-Be sure that you have secured a copy of Farewell to Manzanar by Monday, October 30. We will begin our study of Japanese history next week.

-Are you excited? We will be working on tiered assignments and independent study in the Mac lab Monday through Wednesday of next week. Can’t wait!

Rest up and have a wonderful weekend! We will be working hard next week:)

Japan: How does where you live affect how you live?

Hi all,
All S.T.A.R.s did a great job with today’s essential question: How does where you live affect how you live?. We began our discussion with the physical geography of Japan and how these characteristics affect the culture of the Japanese people.

I finished grading all of the Japan pre-assessments and returned them to students. Please make sure that your parents sign the pre-test results and return it with your parent letter on Friday, October 27. Parent letters regarding the tier assignment project will be distributed to all students on Thursday, October 26. The letter will explain the purpose of the pre-test, detail the learning objectives, and explain the evidence of learning. Classes will be in the Mac Lab next week to get started on their projects. I look forward to multitudes of learning!

I hope that you are excited about tomorrow! See YOU on the field:)

Three Monotheistic Religions

Hello Hollywood!
We wrapped up our study of the three monotheistic religions in preparation for our guest speaker, Mr. Nelson, who will join our class tomorrow. After a review of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, it is interesting to see the similarities and differences among the three religions. With an upfront preview of world religions, I think that you will have a deeper understanding of the areas that we will study this year.

I took a peek at your questions for Mr. Nelson, and I am impressed with your interests and inquisitive minds:) I am looking forward to a great day together tomorrow.

Let’s review:
Is it a belief?: You should stay home on Friday, October 13. Just kidding…

Homework for tonight: Rest up for tomorrow…You have worked very hard this week!
