LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation) is tomorrow for eighth grade students. They will be staying after school to rehearse and eat and then traveling to Lovinggood Middle School to perform at 7pm. Students must be picked up by 7:40 at Lovinggood Middle School. You are encouraged to come watch us perform at 7pm – they have worked hard for this evening!

Students need to bring their concert clothes – long black from head to toe – to school tomorrow.

I have permission slips from the following students:
Jorge
Sabrina
Emma
Ravi
Deionca
Kelsey
Henrio
Gerald
Leslie

As you can see, this is a VERY small list. The permission form can be downloaded from tan earlier posting and sent in tomorrow. I must have a permission slip on file in order for students to participate.

If your student was accepted into the KMHS Magnet program, there has been an additional orientation evening scheduled for students participating in LGPE. This additional evening is Monday, March 15th at 5:30pm. We are thankful that the Magnet coordinator recognizes the value and importance of students participating in their school’s LGPE performance.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

8th Grade LGPE Thursday!

Filed under 8th Grade, Concert Info

8th Grade’s LGPE performance is THIS Thursday at Lovinggood Middle School. Your student should have presented you with a permission slip to attend LGPE already. If you have not seen this, please print out and sign the attached permission slip and send in with your student ASAP.
8th LGPE Permission

We need 1 chaperone to accompany us to Lovinggood MS. You do not need to ride on the bus :) Please let me know if you are available by 6:00 this Thursday.
I will not see 8th grade on Wednesday, so it is vital that they bring the permission slip to me first thing tomorrow morning if they have not done so already.

Per the handbook, Concert Dress is solid dress black – no t-shirts or sneakers.
Skirts must hit below the knee when seated. Pants or ankle-length skirts are best. All socks/tights should be black, as well.

Any student not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to perform on stage and will be playing their music Friday in class to make up the grade.

Students will stay after school this Thursday, March 11th. We will perform at 7:00 in the Lovinggood Middle School theater. I highly encourage you to come support your students as they show off their hard work.
Students will be finished performing at 7:40 and must be picked up from Lovinggood Middle School – 3825 Luther Ward Road, Powder Springs, Ga 30127

Please let me know if you have any questions about LGPE or anything else.

Monday, March 8th

This Monday, March 8th, Angela Baddock from Harrison High School Orchestra will be taking over my role at McClure – and I will be taking her role at Harrison – for the day.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the 8th grade students to meet one of our feeding schools and see how a high school director leads her class, as well as for the other students to work with another director. This is especially helpful just before LGPE given a new set of ears and eyes to experience students’ playing.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

On a different note, here is an interesting article about the Mozart effect and how our subject can positively affect the brain:

Playing along with the Mozart effect
If you want music to sharpen your senses, boost your ability to focus and perhaps even improve your memory, you need to be a participant, not just a listener.
