Amazing High School Musicians

Watch and be amazed at the passion and virtuosity these high school musicians from Venezuela:

Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra

And listen to the founder of the program who produced the above musicians as he explains his founding vision for the arts in Venezuela, one that I know many musicians in our area share for our students as well:

Festival Information

The Clinic on Monday went very well. The students really responded well to our clinicians – I am very proud of everyone!

As we get closer and closer to Festival (5 days until 7th plays and 6 days until 8th performs!) there are only a few more rehearsals after school.

Today – 7th Grade Violins and Violas
Friday – 7th Grade Cello and Bass

Wednesday, 3/4 – 8th Grade Full Rehearsal until 5:30
Thursday, 3/5 – 7th Grade Full Rehearsal until 5:30

We are still in need of a couple chaperones for each grade level to accompany us to Festival. If you are interested, please e-mail me or indicate your interest on your student's permission slip to let me know.

Festival will be held at Lovinggood Middle School on Monday, March 9th (7th grade, 7:20 performance time) and Tuesday, March 10th (8th Grade, 7:20 performance time). I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Students need to be picked up from Lovinggood no later than 8:10pm on their performance day.

Pre-Festival and rehearsal info

I hope everyone had a wonderful 3 day weekend!

Tomorrow: All Festival students have an after school rehearsal until 6:00. We will be listening and giving constructive feedback to each other's  performances. This will allow us to play for a small, understanding audience as well as become familiar with the grading sheet that the judges will be using when we perform at Lovinggood MS in March.

Our Pre-Festival Clinic will be held Monday, February 23rd, directly after school until 6:30 (6:00 if not eating with us). This is a VERY important opportunity for our groups to grow and learn from esteemed colleagues of mine in the community.

Parents: We are in need of a couple volunteers to help with chaperoning the students at CODA festival. If you are willing to help, please indicate that on the field trip permission form that will be coming home this week. Both groups perform at 7:20, and we will be finished by 8:00 each evening.

Parents are welcome to attend – students will perform directly after school and then work with one of two clinicians for the remainder of the afternoon.

Practice Records were due today for 6th grade. Jamboree music will be coming home this week – how exciting! Be on the lookout- there's lots to learn. :)

All Students and Parents:

I invite you to come see a performance of the Cobb Symphony this weekend.
I play cello for the CSO and we are playing an amazing program on this concert: Brahm's 3rd Symphony, Tina Guo (who has played with the Foo Fighters) performing Shostakovitch's Cello Concerto and Dvorák's Carnival Overture.

Performances are Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm, both at the Murray Arts Center located at Stileboro and Barrett Parkway. Visit the website for further details and to purchase tickets.

Hope to see you there!

6th Grade:
Your current practice record is available for download below. I was amazed to see how many students went so far above and beyond with the musictheory.net  homework! Way to go! Download 6th Grade Practice Record 2:17
