Congratulations Jamboree Participants!!

You played WONDERFULLY Thursday, and I am so proud to be your teacher. You played exactly as I knew you would, and it showed how much work you have put into this music in the past month or so.

Thank you to all the parents who showed up to support their sons and daughters, and a HUGE thank you to Mr. Carson, Ms. Peterson, Mr. Phleger and Ms. Robinson for all their work as chaperones. The night went so smoothly, and it was because of everyone's excellent work throughout the evening.

So – now we have smooth sailing on into May – our next concert is Monday, May 18th – the last week of school!

Have a wonderful Spring Break and get some much-deserved rest and sun!

As the principal
percussionist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Ted Atkatz had reached
a pinnacle in his profession. He had tenure in one of the world's great
musical institutions, with a fat salary and benefits. Stagehands set up
his battery of instruments. Touring meant luxury hotels and per diems.
And
he had, just as precious, the respect of the percussion world, a
singularly obsessive group of musicians who play the triangle, the bass
drum and everything between. Learn more>>>

Jamboree Update

There is only 1 week left until Jamboree! I can't wait to see everyone at Harrison HS on the 26th!

I do NOT have permission slips from the following people:

Sarah B.
JuJu C.
Jose C.
Elizabeth D.
Jacob F.
Miguel V.
Jailene A.
Zach E.
Austin G.
Josh P.
Raini W.
Logan W.

The Jamboree permission slip is available on the previous blog posting if you are in need of a copy.

If I don't have your slip by Monday, you are not going to Jamboree – and I would hate for you to miss out! We will be talking about this concert for years to come (don't believe me? Ask an 8th grader!)

I will be at the America String Teacher's Association conference Thursday and Friday of this week, but if you need anything, I will be checking my e-mail daily.

Also, that means no instruments the rest of this week – you'll be learning how to vibrato!

Practice Records are due Monday!

Jamboree Count Down!

Jamboree is only 8 school days away!

There are still MANY students who have not turned in permission slips yet! Please get those in ASAP so we can all have a wonderful time at Harrison next week!

To download the permission slip and information, click below:
Download Jamboree09 Student Handout

The next practice log for all Jamboree participants is due Monday, 3/23. You can download it here:

Download Jamboree Practice Record 3-23

Also, we are in need of a couple more chaperones to accompany us to Festival. You do not need to ride on the buses (in fact, transporting some of our larger instruments would be most helpful!). We mainly need supervision of the students directly after school lets out and while we are eating at Harrison (about 6:30). Please let me know if you are available!

There are a couple after-school rehearsals coming up to help us prepare for our performance on the 26th.

Violins and Violas: Tuesday, 3/17 (tomorrow)
Cello and Bass: Wednesday, 3/18
Everyone: Tuesday, 3/24

All rehearsals will be at McClure until 5:30pm.

Congratuations Festival Players!

I am so proud of everyone. You all did a wonderful job these last couple days, and it showed.

7th Grade received excellent ratings and lots of very helpful comments to further our development in the coming year.

8th Grade received superior and excellent ratings, with a superior in sight-reading, as well as wonderful comments from the judges regarding how to bring our performances to the next level of musiciality.

Thank you to all the students for all the hard work you have put in to your music these past couple of months.

A HUGE thank you to Ms. Benson, McClure's chorus director, for her performance on piano on Song of the Sea Mariner for 7th grade. Having the piano really helped fill out the texture of such a lovely piece of music.

Chaperones and parents – we would not be here without you. Thank you for all that you do in encouraging your students as they learn to play their instruments. I especially want to thank all the parents for attending the concerts and picking up your students in a timely fashion. It is wonderful to have so much willingness to help from everyone, and I truly appreicate all you do.

Have a wonderful week, everyone. With Festival behind us, we get to look forward to Jamboree (for sixth grade and our new seventh graders), fifth grade recruitment, DISNEY! and our Spring concert on May 18th. We still have lots going on as we approach the end of this school year! I will of course let you know about all upcoming events, and please feel free to check http://McClureOrchestra.googlepages.com for more information.
