Today we took our first Unit test. Most students finished. Third period will have some additional time tomorrow to finish theirs up.
The student from each class that scores the highest will get to sit in Mrs. Thompson’s desk for the day! Will you be the lucky student?
Today was a very important day in Math class. We spent our class time reviewing all the concepts learned in our first unit. OUR TEST IS TOMORROW!!!!! Make sure you study everything we talked about in class today. You should have written it down. Use the resouces in the M7D1 page to help you prepare.
For tips on how to prepare and tackle a math test, check out the resourcs in the syllabus page. Get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast.
Today we concluded our study of our whale data. I was SOOOOO impressed with how well everyone did this task. You were asking great questions and coming to some really good conclusions about the data. You’ve probably never learned so much about whales – just by looking at the numbers.
If you were working a little slower and need more time to finish your “Whale of a Time,” you may finish it over the weekend. Don’t forget to turn it in on Monday though.
Today we became oceanographers and did a little whale watching. We found that the orca whales have the nickname: Killer whales for a good reason. They are bullies. We began our “Whale of a Time task” that will require us to use all of our M7D1 skills to annalize the data of Blue, Grey & Orca whales.
Tomorrow is FRIDAY! That means your weekly homework is due!!!!!
Today was an early release day so we had shortened class periods. We had some time to practice understanding correlations on scatter plots.
Next week we will be taking our first unit test. PLEASE start studying NOW. There are many resources on the M7D1 page that will help you. I am also going to have a help session Monday morning @ 8:10. If you would like to attend, please sign up in class and I’ll stamp a pass in your agenda.
Don’t forget to bring back your textbook contracts and CRCT Coach workbook forms.
Tomorrow is Business Casual Thursday! Can’t wait to see you dressed for success!!!
3rd period continued working on their Intro to Box Plots activity on the NSpires today. I know this is a difficult activity, but you guys are really doing great. You can come in during homeroom to finish it up. We might have a little time during the next three days as well. I’d like to have them all turned in by Friday.
5th, 6th & 7th periods: We discussed scatterplots today and worked some problems in our worktext. Please finish pg. 267, 270 & 271 if you didn’t finish in class. If you didn’t turn in your name box plots, you need to do so tomorrow. Look back at yesterday’s blog for details.
Today you received back you bellringers & homework from last week. Please look closely at the comments I wrote on them. Your quizzes from Friday are grade and in the grade book as well. You will get them back as soon as everyone has taken the quiz.
5rh, 6th & 7th periods: PLEASE finish your Box-n-Whisker Name task this evening. We will be moving on to Scatter Plots tomorrow and there will not be much class time to work on these.
Today you also received your homework for the week. Remember, you must show your work to receive credit. This will be due on Friday.
Don’t forget to return your textbook contract and CRCT coach book forms.
Today we took our quiz. I can’t wait to grade them and see how much you have learned. I will get these back to you as soon as I can.
Pinnacle should be up for you to see grades around August 30th. I will run progress reports for students no later than next Wednesday so you can see how grades are looking thus far.
Today students recieved information about ordering a CRCT Prep Coach Book. These are a very valuable tool in helping get students ready for the test in the spring. If you would like to purchase one, the cost is $11. Orders will be accepted until Sept. 17th.
5th, 6th & 7th periods also recieved a Textbook contract. These need to be filled out and signed by both parents and students. Please note on the back of them any damage your textbook currently has.
That’s it for now. Have a great weekend everyone
Today we continued working with Box-n-whiskers. We created two box-n-whiskers on our Nspires that allowed us to comare the heights of a sampling boys and girls. We discussed the information you can see from looking at the box-n-whiskers.
Tomorrow we will have a 10 question quiz over all the topics we have discussed so far this year. This includes: samples and populations, cumulative frequency charts, stem-n-leaf plots, measures of central tendencies (mean, median and mode) and how outliers affect them. You will also need to know how to construct a box-and-whisker plot.
Today we started our discussion of box-n-whiskers by first comparing them to line plots and histograms on the TINspire calculators. I think everyone found this fun once you got the hang of how to move around in the calculators. You guys are quickly becoming pros already.
Don’t forget to checkout the resources on the M7D1 page if you get stuck on your homework.
* Tomorrow is “Business Casual Thursday.” Can’t wait to see you all looking so good!!!
**Don’t forget about Friday’s quiz. It will cover samples & census, measures of central tendencies with & without outliers and how to construct a box-n-whisker plot (we will practice this more tomorrow).
