We had shortened classes today, but still managed to get a lot.

3rd, 6th & 7th periods: We took a Simplifying algebraic expressions quiz on the Nspires. You also got a classwork assignment (1-4 Practice) to help you recognize those properties we learned yesterday.
Homework: Finish 1-4 Practice if you didn’t do so in class. This is a handout.

5th period: You also took the quiz today and had a little time left over to plan your level 3 projects.

New Homework policy (2nd 9 wks)

Posted on October 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized by Mrs. Thompson

There has been a change in policy for grading homework this nine weeks. So here’s the scoop:

1. Every homework assignment WILL be given a grade.
2. Students must attempt ALL problems to receive 100% (no more skipping the word problems).
3. Student work that is sloppy or headed incorrectly will receive 70% even if they attempted 100% of the problems.
4. Class time will still be spent going over the correct answers to each assignment and students will be given the opportunity to see problems worked out that they didn’t quite understand.
5. Homework is checked at the beginning of each class period and will not be collected by Mrs. Thompson on most days. Students should keep a homework section in their binders to keep track of past assignments. Students should also correct their papers with pen when we go over them in class.

6. Late homework will not be accepted (unless the student was absent). However, classwork and performance tasks will still be accepted late with 5 Maverick monies.

What does this mean for the grade book? You should see many more grades than last nine weeks. Class work assignments, Performance tasks, quizzes and of course tests will be graded for accuracy and will be waited more than homework assignments.

When you look at the gradebook, homework grades should give you an indication of whether or not a student has been practicing their skills daily. Their performance tasks, classwork, quizzes and unit tests should give you an idea of how well the student has mastered the standard covered in that unit.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions about the policy changes this nine weeks. :)

We spent time today going over yesterday’s and Friday’s assignments. We also learned about 3 additonal properties (Commutative, Associative & Identity).
Homework: Textbook pg. 30 (1 – 6), (19 – 24), (37 – 40) & (46 – 53)

5th period: Looks like you guys had a little difficulty with yesterday’s assignment. We went over the answers and I worked a few of them out for you. Your homework is to correct those that you missed on that sheet. You should also start planning your level 3 project.

Monday, Oct. 19th

Happy Monday all ~
Today you had a sub in class. I didn’t want to give you all the head cold I started coming down with on Friday. I’m feeling much better and should be back in class tomorrow.

Here is to recap what we did on Friday:

3rd, 6th & 7th periods:
We worked on using the distributive property to simplify algebraic expressions. We spent time going over homework and working on 1-5 Practice. This was a handout and you should have completed the right hand column over the weekend. Since I was not in class today, we will spend some time tomorrow looking at any problems you found difficult on this sheet.

5th period:
I started going through your folders and checking your level 1 assignments. I think all of your worksheets were marked with the incorrect ones and some of your textbook assignments have also been checked. I will have the rest of them checked in the next day or so. If you have any incorrect answers, you are expected to go back and correct those before going on to Level 3.

Here’s a recap of what you SHOULD have done in class today:
3rd, 6th & 7th periods –
You were given a Simplify Expressions worksheet to practice the distributive property some more. You should have had time in class to complete the “worksheet #2″ side and go over it in class. You should have also had time to work on or even complete the “worksheet #3″ side and we will go over that tomorrow in class. Hang onto it! Your homework tonight is to complete 1-5 Practice (2 – 24) even and # 25-26. This is in your skinny workbook. Don’t confuse it with the other 1-5 Practice you were given on Friday. That one did not come from your workbook and is completely unrelated.

5th Period:
You should have continued making corrections on your Level 1 assignments, finish up your level 2 tasks, and start planning out your level 3 project if you have gotten that far. Your homework was a handout: Simplifying Expressions, worksheet #4.

See you all tomorrow.

3rd & 7th periods: You finished your Candy Mystery task today and turned that in for a grade. Your homework is to complete 1-20 on the Combining Like terms worksheet
6th periods: You should have also completed and turned in your Candy Mystery task today. You need to complete (21 – 30) on the Combining like terms worksheet.

5th period: We started working on Level 2 tasks today. You will have a few more class periods to complete these, so no homework for you tonight. :)
