Today we continued working on our understanding of perimeter and area of similar figures. We didn’t get to go over all of your assignments, but we will tomorrow. We did work out many great examples and viewed a powerpoint. Our Unit test has been postponed until Thursday. We need one more day to master this concept. Tomorrow morning there will be a help session. I will come down and get students at 8:00 am. You don’t need a pass. Just show up.

5th period: Your assignment today was to read pg. 604 – 606 in your textbook and complete 1 – 17 on pg. 607 – 608

3rd, 6th & 7th periods: You need to look back over last nights homework assignments and make sure you did them correctly. Study your notes from today as well.

Well – we have a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to get it done. Today you received 3 assignments. Most of you got the first one done in class and the second two shouldn’t take too long to do. We will go over them tomorrow and prepare for our test on Wednesday over Area and Perimeter of similar figures. 5th period also needs to know how to find surface area and volume of similar solids.

Our benchmark test will be this Friday. We will spend time on Thursday reviewing for it.

Next week will be one last short unit over M7G4. We will test over this unit next Thursday. Like I said – we have a lot of work to do and not a lot of time to get it done.

Today we spent time going over our “Discovering Area and Perimeter of similar figures” activity. Hopefully I was able to clear up a lot of your confusion. This evening you have a handout with 5 problems for you to enjoy exploring. We’ll continue working with our similar figures tomorrow.

Another short day at school. We did manage to get some learning done though. You explored the relationship between similar figures and their area and perimeters some more and continued to work on your “Discovering Area and Perimeter of similar figures” packet. You need to try and finish this up this evening. I realize that this is a challenging concept and that you are going to have to really put forth some effort to understand it fully. We will continue to work on this through next week.

On another note: The doctor said my foot is not fractured! YEAH! I should be able to run again once the swelling and bruising goes down. Thanks for your kind words today as I hobbled around.

Happy Monday everyone,
Well, due to the chorus field trip today, plans were changed slightly. We spent part of our class period doing a review over simplifying algebraic expressions. The results were not that great, sooooo we will continue to work on it as long as we still have time in the school year. I’m confident that we will eventually learn to do this with ease.

We spent the rest of the class period reviewing how to find perimeter and circumference and area of parallelograms. Your homework is textbook pg. 526 (1 – 6) & (11 – 20), and pg. 532 (1 – 22)

This week we will be wraping up our unit on indirect measurement. Yesterday you were given a packet to study from. Test questions will come from that packet so make sure you know how to do ALL of them.

The test will consist of:
~ 10 word problems (6 pts. each)
– 1 pt. for drawing a picture
– 2 pts. for settung up the proportion or scale factor correctly
– 2 pts. for correctly showing calculations (any multiplication of division necessary using fractions when appropriate)
– 1 pt. for the correct answer

~ 5 similar figure problems (4 pts. each)
– 2 pts. for setting up the proportion or scale factor correctly
– 1 pt. for correctly showing calculations
– 1 pt. for the correct answer

~ 10 review questions (2 pts. each) : adding & subtracting integers, two step equations & simplifying algebraic expressions

The test will be on Thursday! Your packet should be completed when you come to class on Wednesday so we can answer any last minute questions.

We have started our study of indirect measurement and similar figures. We looked at two ways to find indirect measurements: using scale factors or using proportions.

3rd, 6th & 7th periods: Tonight’s homework is Similar Figures Assignment 3
5th period: Textbook pg. 306 – 307 (4 – 19)

Happy Monday everyone! I think I just about have all of the Unit test finished now. Just a few to go. I’m almost finished grading them so you can have them back to look at soon.

So now we are off to our next unit “M7G3.” We will be studying similar figures and area & perimeters of similar figures. Your homework tonight is to complete the proportions assignment 1. This should serve as a good review of how to solve proportions and work with ratios. You will need to be able to apply this skill a lot during this unit.

We dilated smily faces today in class. Your homework tonight is to finish graphing all 6 figures and to complete the homework sheet given in class. You DON’T have to do the 5 questions at the bottom of “Dilations in the Coordinate Plane.”
