Sorry about the BLOG posting so late yesterday. It was out of my control; there were school wide issues with TypePad.

—- I’ll have student test retakes graded and posted by Monday.—-

We finished our Constitution: Bill of Rights discussion today, then students took Cornell Notes as they viewed a video stream of Ancient History: Greek. We will briefly cover Greek, Rome, and Medieval  Ancient Civilizations next week, as we build background for our history and government of European studies.

We will share our current event issues on Monday, if you did not do yours, you have the weekend to finish it.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Progress Report signatures were due today.
If you did not receive one, please email me.These reports will be kept in each students ACSS binder in the graded paper section, so you and I may refer back to them.

Students turned in their Media Center Scavenger Hunt and I gave them a sticker with all the usernames, passwords, and web site info. It is in their agenda under the Media Center bar code. Some students in Period 1/2 will receive theirs tomorrow.

Everyone finished their Capital Test today and I have updated grades.

Students not testing today worked on Chap 10, Section 2,3, or 4 Cornell Notes. We also began discussions on the Bill of Rights and the Constitution as we honored yesterday’s Constitution Day.

Homework is to study for the country retest if you failed it. Watch CNN, FOX, or other news channel and be ready to discuss a current event if you passed the test!!

If you need to retake the country test tomorrow morning at 8:00AM and left your ACSS binder at school, thus not having a pass, then you may print out this email to use as a pass.

ALL STUDENTS RECEIVED A PROGRESS REPORT TODAY. PLEASE SIGN AND RETURN THESE TOMORROW. I’LL CHECK OFF THAT PARENT/GUARDIANS SAW THESE AND THEN STUDENTS WILL KEEP THEM IN THE GRADED PAPER SECTION OF THEIR BINDER.  THANKS!!

Students who need to retake the country test this Friday may use my note on their Progress Report as their Friday 8:00 AM morning pass, to be allowed to come upstairs to retake their test.

We will honor Constitution Day tomorrow with group activities and PPT, due to spending the day in the Media Center learning about all the resources available to students from home and school.

Students received passwords and usernames for Cobb Virtual Library and Galileo. We are so excited that all McClure students may now access Destiny, our school library webpath, from home!! They may find books they need/want to read and write the call numbers down while at home, then during homeroom go directly to the shelf in the Media Center and pull the books they want to check out more quickly. This saves a lot of time not having to wait for school computers to come available.

Students also accessed World Book and Grolier encyclopedias, eLibrary, Student Research Center, Gale Junior Reference Collection, and Culture Grams while in the library today. All of these may be accessed from home through Cobb Virtual Library. Homework is to finish the Media Center scavenger hunt through these resources. Share these with your parents tonight!!

Also, have your Progress Report with parent signature in class tomorrow!!

AC SOCIAL STUDIES — REVISED

16 09 2008

Students took the European Country section of their test today.

Most finished the capital section; a few will need to finish theirs in class tomorrow.

I will try to grade the European Country section of today’s test and post it tonight, so it will be on tomorrow’s Progress Reports.

I have graded the capital portion to today’s test for those who finished it. I will post these grades tonight in i-Parent.

As soon as the others finish this section tomorrow, I’ll grade them and post grades.

Students, if you feel you may have failed either section of this test, continue studying tonight because retesting will take place this Friday at 8:00AM. Remember that I need to sign your agenda to give permission for you to come upstairs to retake the test.

As we continued with our Hero’s activity, one of our students shared a story about his great grandfather’s adventures during war time in Europe. Then students made Cornell lists of their favorite heros and completed a real/fictional compare/contrast double bubble, which they shared with their group.

Students received a workbook and a reading study guide book in which we will use throughout the year. These are for the students to keep; they may write in them.

Homework is to label your two workbooks. Use a sharpie and label as directed in class.
