Masquerade Ball

30 10 2009

Our Masquerade Ball was a huge success!! Students have learned many facts about important people throughout European history and can now recognize who they are by their picture.

Please be safe this weekend if you are out Trick-or-Treating. Remember to not go up to houses which have their outdoor lights turned off. Wear reflective gear if you are walking in the dark & be careful crossing/walking near the street. Do not wear a mask which prevents you from being able to see clearly. Have a partner or group to hang out with. Check your candy before eating it.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Test & Masks

29 10 2009

Students completed their Chap 11 test today.  I hope to have these grades posted by Tuesday.

A few students need to come in during homeroom tomorrow to finish the essay portion. Don’t forget to come in!!

Homeroom starts at 8:50. As we discussed today, if your bus comes in late, you may want to come by car so you have enough time.

Homework is to rehearse for tomorrow’s Ball and to decide what kind of handle you will attach to your mask to hold it on/up…..paint stirrer, stick, pencil, ribbon, etc. Don’t forget your props ( :

Remember that you do not have to wear a costume unless you wish to.  Also, don’t bring anything resembling a weapon.

Chap 11 Test tomorrow

28 10 2009

As we reviewed for the Chapter 11 test, students took notes for their study guide. I also gave students a choice out of 6 topics for the essay portion of their test and gave them a list of points in which they need to be sure to cover in their paragraphs.

We also viewed a video stream about the French Revolution.

Tonight, study/review Chapter 11 notes, workbook, and text. Also, practice what you plan to write about for your essay.

Grades will be updated by 6:00 this evening. Please check Pinnacle.

We will finish masks for the Masquerade Ball tomorrow after the test.  You may use your 5Ws & How papers as cheat sheets for the Ball ( :

The Russian Empire

27 10 2009

I did not collect Intro and Geography research notes today. Some students still had trouble finding some of their info. We worked on finding resources for them. I will collect these tomorrow.

We discussed prop ideas for the masquerade ball and worked on graphics for masks. We also discussed methods of historical role play students might use as they prepare to become their very important historical figure on Friday!

Most students finished explorer wkbk pg 34, then worked on wkbk pg 36. We checked wkbk pg. 36, section A-the Russian czars.

All classes should have wkbk pg 34 & 36 completed by tomorrow.

Country Research

26 10 2009

Students spent the day researching their European country and writing notes. Remember to try to write your notes in the format of Cornell Notes.

I gave pointers in locating sites in which students could trust the info to be correct. We walked through the CIA Fact Book, deciding which data/info would fit where in our research. We also looked at several sites from the actual countries in which students were researching, as we looked for info.

Homework is to finish all Introduction and Geography notes. Keep looking for Environment  problems in your country. Refer to the outline I gave you to make sure you leave nothing out. **Remember that we added ethnic groups to the Introduction section and natural resources to the Geography section.**

Also work on props and/or costume  (if you are wearing one) for Friday’s Ball!!  I’ll grade and return your 5 Ws & How notes by Wednesday so you will have them to practice your conversation.

We will have an open book Chap 11 test on Thursday. We will work on Section 4 tomorrow in class.

Research and Revising

23 10 2009

We worked on revising Masquerade notes (5Ws & how) again. These are all due by Monday!! Work on gathering props and costume if you plan to dress for the part.  Ball is Friday.

Students also worked on their country research. The introduction and geography sections will be due by Tuesday. Some students have begun working on their environmental notes. Continue to think about how you plan to present your country.

Have a nice weekend ( :

Conferencing and Revising Notes

22 10 2009

We spent the day critiquing, conferencing, and revising Masquerade notes.

Tonight’s homework is to handwrite or type a final bulleted copy using suggested revisions from today. If you are typing your notes, please print out a paper copy for me to grade tomorrow. If you have printer problems have a parent write a note, then come in homeroom to print yours out. Thanks!!

A few students did not have their notes at school. Please have your parents look over what you have done and help as needed.

Tomorrow we will work on masks.

Masquerade 5Ws & How

21 10 2009

I reviewed expectations for the Masquerade 5Ws & How notes and answered questions concerning them. Then we printed out any notes copied or written in the computer lab yesterday. Many students saved them to their flash drive.

Students who had finished their notes yesterday rehearsed for the Ball, while others researched more deeply about their person. Most of the students who were out for chorus yesterday, had a chance to work in the Media Center taking notes.

Homework tonight is to finish your Masquerade 5Ws & How notes. During class tomorrow, I’ll conference with everyone and give feedback on how to improve them. Final version of Masquerade notes are due by Friday. At which time, we will role play how the conversations should go during the Ball. October 30 (during class) will be our Masquerade Ball.

Remember that the How should explain how “what your character is known for”  impacted their country, Europe, &/or the world. Some of these events continue to impact the world today.

MASQUERADE BALL

20 10 2009

Today, students spent the day in the Media Center researching their character for our Masquerade Ball. They began writing/gathering  the 5 Ws –who, what, when, where, why– and how info about their character. Class time will be given tomorrow to continue with this. If you decide to work on this at home, don’t forget to check out Cobb Virtual Library!! Your usernames and passwords are written in your agenda!!

If you still do not  have a facing forward graphic of your person, please come see me in homeroom tomorrow!

I gave students a rubric for this project today. We’ll set a timeline of due dates tomorrow.
