Role-Playing

17 12 2009

Students role-played what it would look like in the British Parliament as a bill is being debated and voted on to become or not become a law. They focused on forming coalitions and seeing the differences between being in committee vs. all in attendance in the House of Commons.

Students also role played an interview with Boris Yeltsin as he discussed his part in the reform movement in the Soviet Union.

There is no homework!! Enjoy your evening.

Students continued comparing/contrasting the governments of the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. After the class completed their compare/contrast chart, we checked it, then student took a quiz.

This will be my last grade for this 9 weeks. I hope to have all grades posted by Friday evening.

No homework!! Enjoy!

15 12 2009

Students worked in groups today comparing and contrasting the governments of the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States. We also made connections to eastern European governments after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sudents will complete their graphic organizer tomorrow in class.

We also reviewed Chap 14, Less1 about the United Kingdom.

Tomorrow we will finish with our government comparisons and then students will have a brief quiz on the UK and the three governments. Review any notes and Chap 14, Lesson 1.

Test Corrections/Feedback

14 12 2009

Pinnacle grades have been updated. I added Chap 12 essay grades. Hope to have Chap 13 essay and today’s pop quiz up by tomorrow.

Today, students had an opportunity to ask questions and get feedback as to how I scored their Chapter 12 essays. We also went over the fill in the blank and multiple choice answers.

We worked on developing those deeper, critical thinking skills as we discussed defining vs. analyzing, evaluating, and giving evidence to support our EQ essays.

Students also read about the UK, its political divisions, problems with Northern Ireland, etc. They worked in groups reading and discussing. There was a pop quiz at the end of class.

**Remember to not just read to be reading words, but to think about and ask questions about what you are reading. Discuss with your partner.

No homework tonight unless you were absent or did not read Chap 14, sect. 1 in class today. (Those I spoke with in P1.)

Let’s stay focused and on task this week!! We are almost finished with Europe!

Test Review

10 12 2009

Today students continued with EU Centers. We also checked workbook pages 40-42 and reviewed for tomorrow’s test. It will cover Chapter 13 and any discussions and notes taken in class throughout this week. I will be posting a workbook homework grade today. I hope to have all Chap 12 essays graded and posted by Monday afternoon.

Study for tomorrow’s test. Focus on vocabulary! Know the types of governments in these regions, important people and what they did, what happened around the 5 dates we reviewed today, major events, etc. Review your 2 EQ essay questions.

Almost finished with Europe!!!

European Union-EU

9 12 2009

I gave students a quick glance at different world organizations: APEC, EU, OAS, and The Commonwealth. As we study the countries involved, we will focus on each organization/union more in depth.

Today, we focused on the European Union-EU. Students visited the Europa website; its address is now on my blogroll (right hand side of my Blog pg under the calendar). They read about the different areas in which the EU benefits its member countries and took notes. We will finish these tomorrow. Access the Europa website tonight and play around with the Basic Facts section.

Also, study vocab, people, events, major dates for Friday’s test.

We will go over the Chap 12 test tomorrow, since I still have 2 people who have not taken it. (Chap 12 test must be made up by everyone at the end of homeroom tomorrow!)
