Chap 6 Test/Mexico

Students took their Chapter 6 quiz today, then worked on Chapter 7, Section 1, wkbk pg 17.

We also began reviewing a video stream of Mexico: the People, History, and Government. We discussed as we went along and students took Cornell Notes.

Homework is to study your maps and go on the USA TEST PREP site and do a short or medium length CRCT practice test!!! You may set up a profile or just go on as a guest.

Map Tests/Chap 6 Quiz

Political and physical map tests will be on Friday, March 26. It will only be on the countries, capitals, and physical features on the lists I gave you.

Homework every night until then is to practice these through the maps we did in class, flash cards, song, games on the Internet, etc.

Students have completed Chap 6, sect 1, Cornell Notes and the chart on pg 152 (including the Olmec section). They have also worked the sect 2, pg. 166 review for ancient civilizations & Spanish/Portuguese explorers.

We discussed these today. There is a short quiz tomorrow on Chapter 6. Study!!

We also worked on USA TEST PREP short test practice for the CRCT.

Sorry, I am out today.

The sub will read and discuss Chapter 6, Section 1 pgs.150-159 with the students. Students should have written Cornell Notes for this section yesterday; if not then take notes during the discussion ( :

After discussing Chapter 6 section 1, the students should draw the chart on textbook pg. 152 which compares the Maya, Aztec, and Inca ancient civilizations. As they read Chapter 6 section 2 ( pgs. 160-166 ), they should be able to complete the chart.

If time permits students will work on the Section 2 Assessment on pg 166 #1-4.

Homework is to study their Latin American capitals, countries, and physical features through internet sites, flash cards, &/or class map handouts.

Physical Features Map & Data Charts

Students will complete their physical features map of Latin America today. They have a choice of writing the names on the map or numbering the list and writing the matching number on their map to use as a study guide. I will check the political and physical maps tomorrow.

If they did not do so last week, students will analysis the data charts on pg. 146-149 paying close attention to country, currency, literacy rate, infant mortality, and doctors. Then they will write 6 hypothesis about Latin American countries and their standard of living based on this data.

If the students finish all the above work, they will begin reading Chapter 6, Section 1 pgs.150-159 and write Cornell Notes. Don’t forget to study the maps, vocab, and any extra “inset” info.

Homework is to finish # 1 Physical Features map if they have not done so in class. Also, to study their Latin American capitals, countries, and physical features through our internet sites, flash cards, or class map handouts.

Latin America Geography

Students received their political and physical maps of Latin America today. I also showed them how to access both sections of the Latin American capitals and countries song from Mrs. Crull’s BLOG, so they do not need to bring in a CD-R or CD-RW unless they want to.

Homework is to complete the political map if they did not do so in class. Also, to study for the political and physical map tests. These will be in a couple weeks. Use the game sites, make flash cards, use the maps I gave you, etc……

Remember that textbook pgs 142-144 and A22-A25 have maps to use as you study. Handouts given out today show what countries, capitals, and features will be on the tests.

Australia/Oceania End of Unit Test

Students completed the Australia/Oceania End of Unit Test and began analyzing/synthesising specialty maps and data charts for Latin America.

Homework is to begin studying the capitals and countries of Latin America by making flash cards and/or accessing Sheppards Software and Ilike2learn websites.

I’ll have CDs ready by tomorrow for those who brought in a CD-R or CD-RW for the Latin America Capitals & Countries song. If you have not done so, bring in a CD-R or CD-RW and I will burn one for you. We have Mrs. Harpin’s permission to do so ( :

Test tomorrow due to early release

Most of the students in 1st period did not have time to complete today’s test and will finish it tomorrow.

As a result, I decided to let the other classes wait until tomorrow to take it. We reviewed economic vocabulary and other info relating to the test.

Australian Test Review

We reviewed for the Australian End of Unit test today. Students took notes.

Homework is to study!! Review today’s notes, Chapter 4-Section 3, and Chapter 25-Sections 1-2.

USA TEST PREP & 2010 CENSUS

We are strongly encouraging students with computers to access the site listed above to practice for the GA CRCT. Flyers with passwords and usernames have gone home throughout the year. In case these cannot be found, I had students write the username and password in their agenda. Students who do not have computer or internet access may come in during homeroom to practice on my computers.

Today, we accessed the USA TEST PREP site and did the daily question and CRCT vocabulary. Students, please access this site from home if you have not done so…it really helps prepare you for the CRCT.

Students also continued with geography and government InspirEd stations.

Homework is to study all notes, including the vocabulary from the Australian/Oceania InspirEd stations for Wednesday’s test.

Please keep an eye out for your 2010 Census form. Please fill it out and return it. The data collected by the Census Bureau impacts funding for our schools and communities, government representation, etc. Check out the official Census website listed below for more info.

Today students continued working at stations learning about the three divisions of the Oceania Island Region and the environmental issues of the Great Barrier Reef. Some students worked on government stations. Others took a walkabout to several land features/parks/etc. of Australia.

Students also learned about the Ring of Fire, atolls, ocean trenches, and volcanic islands.
