Odyssey of the Mind teams are in need of the following supplies. (Before we start purchasing items, please look through your garages, closets, pantries, etc. to see what can be donated or recycled!!) Balsa Wood Team:We are in need of a minimum of 6 identical cartons with dimensions 3ft x 2ft x 2ft.
-All cartons should be identical in size
-All cartons should have a square cross-section ~18×18 in. – 24×24 inch.
-All cartons should have a height of ~3 ft
-We need a minimum of 6 cartons (7 or 8 would be more than welcome) Thanks! Sunya
Nature Trail’R Team 
We will have an OotM Holiday Party on Monday, December 14 from 4:30-5:30. All teams are invited!!
We will also have our group picture taken for McClure’s yearbook during the party ( :
You may bring treats to share. There are ~ 30 of us (includes coaches).
Mrs. Williams and I will provide water, cokes, sprite, etc.

Academic Bowl Ootm Fundraiser:
Please come by to sign up or email me a time slot in which you can work this Saturday, Oct. 24, if you have not done so!
We need team members &/or parents to volunteer to work one hour slots between 8:30-1:30. The blank spots are where we have a need!!! I’ll post first names as you come by or email them to me. You can also use the comment section of this BLOG to let me know! 7:30-8:30 is filled. Thanks!

We will sign up for items to bring for our fundraising and sign up to help out during PTSA’s Fall Family Fun Night, which will be this Thursday from 7:00-9:00.
We’ll also begin brainstorming ideas to solve our Ootm 2009-10 problems.

We discussed items to bring during yesterday’s meeting and revisited our t-shirt and banner design. We’ll finalize these ideas by our next meeting.

Odyssey of the Mind tryouts have been moved to this coming Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 4:30-5:30.
Only students who have turned in forms by this Friday by homeroom will be admitted.
Also, there is a mandatory parent meeting following tryouts from 5:30-6:00.
Coaches will meet afterwards.

Mrs. Williams and I introduced students to Odyssey of the Mind today. This is a competitive club in which we sponsor and coach at McClure MS. It helps develop team building and critical thinking skills. Intent forms were sent home with students who were interested in trying out. We have 7-8 openings for this year. Click on the Odyssey of the Mind tab on my BLOG or go to the National website on my links if you are interested.
***We also are looking for two parents who are willing to help coach a team. Please email me if you are interested.
**Students in any grade level may download the following form, fill it out, and return to Mrs. Pakbaz or Mrs. Williams by Monday, September 21. Ootm Intent to try out 09-10
You also need to prepare the following and bring it to tryouts.
Odyssey of the Mind Instructions for Applicants
Our teams are asked to prepare original skits for competition. For tryouts, we would like you to prepare and perform a 1-3 minute skit. It can be original, or you can perform a monologue, poem or story that will showcase your “acting” skills. (Yes, even the building team needs actors.) We are especially looking for comedy. We will be judging on acting ability, voice, and most importantly creativity and humor.
Also, we will have some activities for you to complete that will simulate what we do throughout the year.
A big part of Odyssey of the Mind is working together as a team, so you will be meeting the returning team members on Tuesday.
Finally either bring your progress report or a Pinnacle grade report to tryouts.

Odyssey of the Mind will not meet this week due to Open House.
Problem Packets have arrived!!! Coaches please contact me for a day/time to meet this week to receive access codes, copies of detailed Problem Folder, and to discuss startup funds for your team.
Starting this week, Mrs. Williams and I will be giving out forms for students wishing to try out for a team. Listen to announcement for which day this will begin!!

RETURNING ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAM MEMBERS
Any students who were in Odyssey of the Mind at McClure Middle School last year and wish to continue this year will meet on Tuesday, August 25 in Mrs. Pakbaz’s room from 4:30-5:30. We will be designing this year’s t-shirt and discussing available slots for new members.
Let Mrs. Pakbaz or Mrs. Williams know by Monday if you have a conflict in scheduling.
Can’t wait to start back up! See you soon!!
We will have a new member informational meeting after Labor Day.
