WARM-UP: MM 2 8 10

  1. A great amount of papers were handed back (quiz corrections, graphs, late work, warm-ups). They should have been put in the graded or warm-up section of your binder.
  2. “Going with the Flow”: We discussed our journeys based on ocean currents. Students volunteered to outline their journey on the board.
  3. We read about tides: page 432-435.
  4. We watched a video streaming clip about tides.
  5. We used a balloon to demonstrate tidal bulge.
  6. We kinesthetically practiced the difference between a spring tide and a neap tide.

HYDROLOGY POST-TEST THIS FRIDAY!

HOMEWORK: Study guide, #1-12.

WARM-UP: 2 4 10

  1. We watched a video about oceans and completed a summary (. ! ?).
  2. We demonstrated as a class how waves move and how currents move.
  3. Quizzes were handed back but not discussed. Those students that earned an A are not required to correct mistakes. Those students that earned a B and below need to correct mistakes (directions below).
  4. We started the Nike investigation: a lesson in ocean currents. COOL!

HOMEWORK:

  1. Finish plotting shoe discoveries on your map. It should only take about 10 minutes.

  2. We took the wave quiz. From what I see by glancing at the quizzes, many of you have a strong understanding of waves!
  3. We began our review for the HYDROLOGY POST-TEST by using the Beyond Question remote controls.

  1. We discussed the WAVE Frayer model from yesterday. Use this to study for the quiz.
  2. We created a WAVE accordian book. The directions on today’s warm-up. Use this to study for the quiz.

HOMEWORK:

  1. Warm-ups will be collected tomorrow
  2. You will have a 10 question quiz tomorrow about waves. Use the Frayer model and accordian book to study.

  1. I collected ‘Revealing the Ocean Floor’. Remember…it counts as a test grade :) .
  2. The ocean graphs were handed back and we discussed the questions.
  3. We read pages 426-428, viewed some animations about waves, then created a Frayer model.

WARM-UP: 1 29 10

ON-LEVEL)

  1. We watched a short video clip about SONAR (If you can’t make it through the weekend without watching it again, it is attached to the warm-up :) ).
  2. We had a few moments with our groups to put the finishing touches on our graphs and look over the questions.
  3. We started Revealing the Ocean Floor. It is a review assignment that I will take for a test grade. I think you will do fantastic! Match the clues (phrases) to the ocean floor features. Use the diagram on pages 384-385 and the second diagram that I gave you in class.

HOMEWORK) Finish Revealing the Ocean Floor. Take your time…it’s a test grade!

ADVANCED)

WARM-UP: 1 29 10

  1. (Advanced only) You were given 10 more minutes to peer edit your composition rough draft. The final copy (ha, I finally said it correctly!) is due as you walk in Friday. We will create the cover page/final product Friday.

  1. I collected the Wide World of Wondrous Waters map.
  2. We took the ‘OCEANS’ quiz. I plan to enter grades for this after today’s conference meetings.
