Today, we enjoyed “Free Choice Friday” (free choice journal writing and sharing) for a few minutes at the beginning of each class period. Next, we discussed chapter 31 in The House of the Scorpion. We also read chapters 32 and 33 in class today.

Today we went over vocabulary words #16-#25. Don’t forget that the 25 vocabulary words will be a part of the end-of-novel test for The House of the Scorpion. You should use Quizlet to help you study!
We also read chapter 30 (”When the Whales Lost Their Legs”) in class and started reading chapter 31 independently. For tomorrow, be sure you have read through the end of chapter 31 and answered the questions for chapters 30 and 31 (one question per chapter).

We took a quiz over chapters 20-22 (HOTS) and then read chapters 23 and 24 in class today.
Today, we took the first language arts benchmark test online in the PC lab. In the time that remained, students read chapters 21 and 22 in The House of the Scorpion and worked on the last ten vocabulary words of the unit. There will be a QUIZ TOMORROW over chapters 20-22 in the novel.
On Tuesday (10/20), students got together in small groups to discuss the answers to the reading check questions over chapters 17 & 18 in The House of the Scorpion. Following a discussion of those two chapters, the entire class read chapter 19 (”Coming of Age”).
Today (10/21), students read chapter 20 (”Esperanza”) and began work on the last 10 vocabulary words from the novel. Click HERE to see the complete vocabulary assignment, including the correct definitions. There is no homework tonight.
Tomorrow, all classes will meet Ms. Smith in the PC LAB for benchmark testing.
