Students learned a pre-reading strategy, PIC, during class.  We read about Food Advertisement Tricks and applied the PIC strategy.  In addition, we learned another reading strategy. The 3-2-1 Summarizing strategy was used to record key information from the non-fiction text.

Please complete the homework for Tuesday, which is identifying the simple subject, complete subject, simple predicate, complete predicate, and prepositional phrase(s) for this sentence:  I walked to school because I missed the bus.

Have a good evening.

March 15, 2010

Students received their new schedules today.  I discussed the importance of keeping up-to-date during the fourth nine weeks.  We have approximately two weeks before Spring Break.  The first day of CRCT is Tuesday,  April14th.

The reading requirements for the fourth nine weeks are listed below:

Students may submit a traditional reading log or a project that  meets the following criteria:

  • Must be a PowerPoint.  Power Point contains a slide for characters, settings, summary (two paragraph minimum), and five pictures with captions explaining their relevance.
  • Must be a Reader’s Diary (one paragraph per 50 pages).  Please review printed guidelines. Must be Book Review Newspaper project.  The paper must contain one article per 50 pages.  Must includes photographs and images with captions explaining their relevance to the book.

Tuesday, March 9

There is no homework tonight.  Enjoy the warm weather.

Tomorrow is Early Release Day.  Students will be dismissed at 2:15.

Students received their spring picture packets in homeroom today. You have the options of (1) buying the entire package and sending in the payment with your child, (2) buying the number of sheets you’d like (sending in the payment) and returning the unwanted sheets, or (3) not purchasing the pictures and returning the entire package.

If your child was absent on spring picture day, a package was not given in homeroom.

Friday, March 5

All reading logs and projects were due this week.

Late work will be accepted for partial credit after today.

Please enjoy your weekend.  I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend and a fun-filled week ahead.
