The Unit 9 Test is Monday.
The attached Download unit9.ppt will help you prepare. The sentences from page 103 will be the focus.
McClure will host a Parent Night to assist parent’s with the math curriculum. Please come and learn about the changes your student may be learning about traditional math concepts.

Today is an Early Release Day. It is also the final day of Conference Week. If you have not had a conference with one of your student’s teachers, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher.
We will be working on Unit 9 in Vocabulary Workshop.
Students will create an illustration activity for the words in this unit.
We will continue discussing immigration laws and how we are currently impacted by these laws.

I hope everyone enjoyed our extended weekend break. We are back in the swing of things.
Tuesday and Wednesday classes completed Part 1 of the Unit 8 Vocabulary Test. Part 2 will be given Thursday and Friday during class.
We are completed notes from Immigration Laws. This is an in-class assignment using PowerPoint.
We began working on Unit 9 independently. Students are to complete Unit 9 in Vocabulary Workshop for homework this week.
We will have Unit 9 test Monday, January 28, 2008. All classes and students will test during this time. Students are encouraged to spend about 20 minutes a night reviewing the unit vocabulary.

Our first Cultural Arts Night is Thursday, January 24 from 7:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. Parents are encouraged to participate in our first Chili/Soup Cookoff. Please contact Deanna Slone at deannaslone@msn.com if you would like to participate. Our next Early Release Day is Wednesday, February 6. Students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m. The Renaissance Celebration for second nine weeks is Friday, February 8. The students who earned Renaissance for this nine weeks will enjoy a movie and popcorn during their Connections classes. Tuesday, February 12 is Spring Picture Day at McClure. Have your smile ready! Progress Reports will be sent home on Wednesday, February 13. School will be closed Monday, February 18 & Tuesday, February 19. These dates are Student Holidays. The third nine weeks grading period ends Friday, March 14. Report cards for the third nine weeks will be sent home Thursday, March 20.
We completed Vocabulary Workshop, pages 94-97 in class.
All tests for Unit 7 were returned with the exception of Class 1B. Class 1B did not meet because students had the writing assessment during the first block. The good news is that grades have been posted for all classes.
We completed immigration vocabulary.
Thursday and Friday classes will complete a matching activity for Unit 8, a vocabulary activity for Immigration terms, and Vocabulary Jeopardy for Unit 8.
The test for Unit 8 will be Tuesday (January 21) for A day classes and Wednesday (January 22) for B day classes.

McClure will be holding its first Multicultural Arts Night on January 24th at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate the diversity of our country.
Join us for an art exhibit, music, and food! A table will be available for families interested in showing others the types of food, dress, games, music, etc… are part of your culture. To reserve a spot for your country, please contact Marcia Johns at mmcmmjohns@comcast.net or Deanna Slone @ deannaslone@msn.com. The deadline for reserving a table is January 21st.

Important Reminder: Eighth grade students will take the Writing Assessment Wednesday, January 16. Please make sure your student arrives to school on time. Testing is expected to end at 11:30.
Parent Conference forms were sent home days ago. If you have not returned the form, a second form was sent. Please look for a bright yellow form with your specific conference time. Please return the form or contact me via email at cossatta.burlock@cobbk12.org to confirm your conference time discuss a more suitable time.
Monday – All classes will take the test for Vocabulary Workshop, Unit 7.
Students began Unit 8 for Vocabulary Workshop. Vocabulary Illustrations are due Tuesday for A Day Classes and Wednesday for B Day Classes. The rubric is attached.

Here are a few announcements.
Parents, look for a letter about the Georgia Writing Assessment. This assessment is mandatory for all eighth grade students. Please come prepared January 16.
Our counselors will host a parent meeting, Thursday, January 17 from 8:30-9:45 A.M. The topic is "Drugs, Internet and Youth Culture: Information That Today’s Parents Need to Know.
If you would like to have your baby picture published in the 2007-2008 McClure Yearbook, please bring your picture to Mrs. Bryd in Room 438 before January 25, 2008.
What Have We Been Doing in Class?
Tuesday (A) and Wednesday (B) – Vocabulary Workshop: Complete Unit 7, pages 84-88. Working in Groups, create a Vocabulary Illustration for each of the words. Students were encouraged to work cooperatively by sharing the workload. Some students created illustrations while others wrote the word and defintions to accompany the illustrations.
Thursday (A) and Friday (B) – Vocabulary Workshop: Complete pages 89-90.
Our goal is to complete one Unit each week.
Also, we will review the new testing format by completing an in-class activity. Please see attachment for the format for future testing. Download unit_7.doc
