Greetings!

We are celebrating Red Ribbon Week.  Students received Pledge Cards today.  Please discuss the importance of remaining drug free.  You may wish to check the school’s blog for details about planned events.

The eighth grade in-house field trip forms were due today.  If you have not returned the form, please do so immediately.

AVID Classes

Monday: We began the Cornell Note Taking unit.  Students were able to demonstrate the note taking system as I modeled on the overhead.  A Power Point of the lesson is available.

Tuesday: Please follow the Advisement Schedule.  Students will complete the Cornell Note Taking Crossword Puzzle.  In addition, please create a flip book using the Learning Styles notes from last Monday and Tuesday.

Mrs. Burlock’s Homeroom Class: Next week, we are hosting an In House Field Trip at McClure for the students. It is a play entitled "One Thing" and it will be performed by Marietta’s Theatre On Main. This program is a day-in-the-life of five high school students who find motivation for coming to school hidden within them. We are excited to have this opportunity and feel it will be very beneficial for all of our students.

Your student will be bringing home a permission slip you will need to return signed for the production. Also, we are collecting a $2 donation from the students to pay the fee for the production.

I would like to welcome all students to the Introduction to AVID course.  I hope this nine weeks will be a life-changing experience for many and the opportunity to expand knowledge and healthy study habits for others.  As we begin our journey together, I want to encourage you to take a deep breath and exhale.  Being a part of AVID is a wonderful opportunity that will enrich your life. 

AVID is a college preparatory class designed to help each student be successful in middle school as well as in high school and college.  If you have not read the Course Syllabus, I would like to invite you to do so.  I am available for questions and academic assistance to your student.  I look forward to a rewarding experience as we aim high to reach goals.

Several students opted not to present when the project was due, October 9, with the understanding that time may not permit for every student to present Friday, October 10.  Because I want to allow all students the opportunity to earn the maximum points, I am allowing  students unable to present during class Friday to come at 8:15 Monday, October 13 to present their projects.
