Happy Monday!
Please remember to read and log every night. Students are responsible for reading 450 pages each nine weeks. The first nine weeks deadline is October 9, 2009. At progress report time (September 16), each student will receive a notification of the pages needed to fulfill this requirement. Please do not wait until the due date to get started with the reading. Remember, no more than 25 pages per summary. The reading log is attached. R&R Log

Have you ever been “stuck” as a writer? Today we learned more techniques that good writers use to improve their writing. We used the 5Ws technique to add details to our narrative writing “The Big Mistake”. The chart is attached. 5ws chart

Week 2 Warm UpsHello Everyone!
Today we continued to discuss narrative writing and engaging an audience. We discussed four ways good writers engage their audience: asking a question, giving interesting facts, using a quote, and sharing an experience.

The writing prompt for today is to write about an experience where you made a poor choice or mistake. Tell what you happened and what you learned from the experience.

Students should spend some time developing their story for homework. I do not expect for students to complete the story tonight. The expectation is that students will continue to write. The narrative should not be typed; it is a DRAFT. The Warm Ups are also attached for this week.

Enjoy your evening.
Thanks

During Writer’s Workshop, we continued to draft a narrative piece. We reviewed a model and discussed engagement. Good writers must engage their audience.

We took a practice quiz for the Daily Grammar Program. The practice assignment will count as a classwork grade.

Please encourage your child to read and log over the weekend break.
Rest and enjoy some family time!

We will resume with our regular classes tomorrow.

Also, I am attaching the syllabus for your review.  Please contact me if you have concerns. (more…)
