Today marked the Opening Ceremonies for the 2009 – 2010 Olympics at McClure.

We reviewed the homework for Monday night, and students were given the assignment for Tuesday night so that we can regain some of the time absorbed by the Olympics and our recent instructional time lost to the unfortunate flood event.

Please download the assignment, if you child is unprepared.

Welcome Back!
Due to the reduced school week, we will not have a weekly quiz tomorrow.

We did not have a grammar homework assignment.

Please remember to read and log. The reading logs are due October 9th for the first grading period.

I received an abundance of logs on September 16, so I am still grading. I hope to have the grades for summer reading posted by tomorrow afternoon.

Reminder: Around the City fundraiser book orders are due tomorrow.

What an eventful week we’ve had! I enjoyed visiting with you at Open House Tuesday night. I know we will have a wonderful year of learning.

Students were given the reading benchmark pretest Wednesday. A posttest will be given at the end of the semester.

Today, we visited the media center where Mrs. Harpin presented an interactive lesson on how to “power search” various genres. Ten of the sixteen items on the Group Scavenger Hunt were examples of non-fiction books. Students appeared to have enjoyed the activity.

I am posting the weekly DGP quiz so students can preview it. It is the last page of the Warm Up Power Point.

Thank you so much for your support. Let’s remember to encourage reading at least 10 pages Sunday through Thursday nights. We will reach our goal of one million words this school year.
