Winter Holiday Break

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share in your educational journey.  I have been blessed to an awesome group of students.  I hope I have inspired you to see the value of education and to appreciate the English language.

 

Here is an excellent website to practice your skills and to help a worthy cause.  Please take some time to “play” during your break from school.

Please write all answers on notebook paper.

  1. What is an indefinite pronoun?
  2. Write two examples of an indefinite pronoun.
  3. What is a demonstrative pronoun?
  4. Write a sentence using a subordinate conjunction.
  5. Write a list of the demonstrative pronouns.
  6. Tell about a nominative pronoun.
  7. Write a sentence that follows the SSVV pattern.

  10. What is the difference between a transitive and intransitive verb?
  11. What is a dependent clause?
    12. When can a sentence have an indirect object?

    15. What are articles? Write a sentence demonstrating the correct usage of one article.
    16. Write a sentence using a song title.  Apply the rule learned in the DGP lesson.
    17. Write a sentence that uses the i-e rule and the exception to the rule(i before e, except after c).
    18. Write a sentence that contains a prepositional phrase as part of the complete subject.
    19.  Write a sentence that follows this pattern: SS V

20. Write a sentence that contains a prepositional phrase in the complete predicate.

Thinking Ahead

The third nine weeks reading logs are due March 5th.  The requirement is 450 pages from a variety of genres.  A variety of genres means that a student must read at least two genres (for example, fiction and biography).  Students may turn in the traditional reading logs or a project from the list provided on the link (see the left side of the blog for the link).  If you have questions, please contact me at cossatta.burlock@cobbk12.org.  Thank you for supporting our reading goals according to the Georgia standard ELA6RC1 (The student reads a minimum of 25 grade-level books or book equivalents (approximately 1,000,000 words) from a variety of subject disciplines.

Remember to know the parts of speech (Monday’s homework) and how the function of the word in the sentence (Tuesday’s homework).

Maverick Miracle Tree…

Each year students have the opportunity to support the Maverick Miracle Tree campaign at McClure.  This year each advisement class was given a specific wish.  The deadline is Friday.  Please discuss how your family or child may be able to participate.

With each flyer presented tonight, Chili’s will donate 10% of the sales you bring in to our school. Let them do the cooking and support McClure Middle School at the same time!
