I apologize for not updating my blog. I have been fighting illness for the past two and a half weeks. It is only now that I am feeling well.
As for what we have been doing in class…
We are progressing nicely in our anchor novel – The House of Dies Drear. Students were given a quiz on chapters 1-5 of the novel as well as vocabulary words associated with the novel. These grades are posted on Pinnacle.
Students have also been taught to use an online essay grading tool to help them with their writing. At this point, all personal narratives have been turned in, and we are currently using the essay scorer to improve our papers.
In today’s class, students took the 1st nine weeks benchmark. Results will be posted in Pinnacle as soon as I receive them.
Homework:
Read for 20 minutes

We have finished our anchor books. Students have had a test on these books and those scores have been entered into Pinnacle. In addition, students have completed anchor book projects. These were due on Monday, October 26th. Any student who did not turn one in will receive a 0 in Pinnacle. As we wrapped up our anchor books, we also completed Unit 1 in the Reader’s Journey. An end of unit benchmark was administred and the grades for that should be entered into Pinnacle in a few days.

Today in class students created a study guide for an activity called Grammar Blocks. We will be using Grammar Blocks to help understand the relationship between words in sentences. Students will keep these study guides in their notebooks to use on a regular basis.
In addition, students will need to start completing a reading log nightly to verify that they are in fact reading for 20 minutes at home.
Homework:
Read for 20 minutes.
Make sure rough draft of narrative is finished. Bring to next class.
Oops – I forgot to hand out the Diagram Worksheet – this will be given out next class.
