Sallas’ Music Notes

Parents who are planning to take their child home with them from Kell High School will need to follow the Band students back to the bus after the performance.   All of the instrument cases will be stored on the bus as well as any back packs or personal belongings.   Please sign your student out on the clipboard before you take off.     Mrs. McCardel or Ms. Sallas will be standing in front of the buses with the clipboard.    This helps us ensure that everyone has been accounted for.

All of the McClure 7th and 8th Grade Bands will be attending LGPE in March.   Parents will receive permission slips for the trips at this week’s concerts.    At LGPE we are evaluated by a panel of 7 adjudicators.  Three Band adjudicators will evaluate how well  we have prepared the music and how well we perform together as an ensemble.   There will be one adjudicator assigned to evaluate each of the woodwind, brass and percussion sections of the Band.   After the performance, the Band will be asked to sight read music that we have never seen before and we will be evaluated as to how well we read music on sight. 

We would love to have our parents there to support us during our LGPE performances!    The schedule is as follows:

8-1 Band:    March 17      McEachern High School   5:45 p.m.

Combined Band:   March 22     Kell High School  7:45 p.m.

7-2 Band:   March 25   Kell High School   7:50 p.m.

The 7th Grade 1^st hour Band and the 8^th Grade 2^nd hour Band will be performing together on the LGPE trip.    We will need two afterschool rehearsals to help us prepare for the trip.    Rehearsals will be:

• Tuesday, March 9 from 4:30-5:30
• Thursday, March 11 from 4:30-5:30

The 7th and 8th Grade Bands will perform here at McClure next week to prepare for our Large Group Performance Evaluation Field Trips coming up in March.    Parents will receive the permission slip and written information about the trip at the concert next week.    We have invited high school Band Directors to come to next week’s concerts and evaluate where we are in our preparation for the performances.   The high school Directors will rehearse each of the bands immediately following the performance.   Their feedback will help us so much in our final weeks of preparing for the trip.

Dear parents,

We are looking for snapshots of the Jazz Band and Clarinet Choir at the Town Center Mall Performance back in December.   If you made any pictures, please email a copy to Mrs. McCardel or send in on a disc.   Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

The final payment for the Disney trip is due February 5.   All students were given an invoice this week listing any forms that have not been turned in as well as the amount due for the final payment.

All parents of 8th Grade students zoned to attend Allatoona High next year are invited to attend an informational meeting about the Allatoona Band Program.   The meeting is next Thursday evening, February 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room at Allatoona High.   Both parents and students are invited.   The Band Directors will present great information about the Band program at Allatoona as well as scheduling information.

The Jazz Band and Clarinet Choir will be performing for Cultural Arts Night at McClure on Thursday, February 11.   We will be performing at approximately 7:30 p.m. that evening.

Our next scheduled concerts for 7th and 8th Grade students are in February.    These will be our Pre-Festival concerts to help us prepare our music for the Festival trip in March.   We have invited judges to come and evaluate us on those nights. One judge will  rehearse each band for about 20 minutes immediately after the performance to help us  to improve.

6th Grade Band Concert is coming up on Thursday, January 21.    The First Hour class performs at 6:00 p.m.    Those studnets need to arrive at 5:30 for warm up.    The Second Hour class performs at 7:30 p.m.    Those students need to arrive at 7:00 for warm up.   All students should wear the Black Band Polo shirt with black slacks, black dress shoes and black socks.   Polo shirts will be given to students in class next week.
