Hello,

Today was the absolute last day students could have turned in their permission forms for the Stars and Strikes field trip. I hope everyone that was planning on going got the forms turned in on time.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I need to go out of town Thursday afternoon to take care of my mother, who is 89 years young, for a couple of days. I will not be in school Friday, February 5 or Monday, February 8. It will be difficult for me to do a blog while I am out of state. For your information I will tell you what the students will be doing on those dates.

Friday, February 5 – There is no warm-up today. Students will be taking an Open Notes Quiz using their warm-up notes and the US and Canada government organization charts. When completed students have a worksheets called Languages of Canada to complete. If this is not completed in class, it becomes homework.

Monday, February 8 – There is no warm-up today. Students first have a Math Connections Using Canada Data worksheet. The questions are on one side and the data chart is on the other. When that is finished, then students are to draw on their background knowledge to complete Reviewing Terms – North America Geography wordsearch. There is not a word bank, but students are welcomed to use any resources available. This too will become homework if not completed in class.

CLASSWORK

Warm-up #10 – ¨What are three environmental concerns of Canada? Answer:  Pollution of the Great Lakes , Acid Rain, Deforestation

Reading Study Guide – Discussed answers for pages 36 and 37

Workbook – Students took turns putting answers on the board for the chart on page 13.

HOMEWORK

There is no homework this evening.

Have a fantastic evening. The sun is shinning, so get outside for a while if you can.  Thomas’ Adventure Travels signing off.     }:~)

Happy Ground Hog Day!

Well, the ground hog in Georgia did not see his shadow, but the one in Pennsylvania did. Does that mean an early summer for Georgia and more winter days for the north? I’m not certain the weather cooperates with the ground hog. If you are curious about this tradition, look it up and see where it originated. It is interesting.

NOTE: You will be having the Canada post-test next week probably on Wednesday, February 10. Begin reviewing your notes.

CLASSWORK

Warm-up #9 – ¨Which Canadian province is called “The Princess Province?”  Answer:  Alberta!  The province was named after Queen Victoria’s fourth daughter, Louise Alberta.

Check Homework – Went over each question and the chart to be certain student had correct answers and understood the vocabulary words.

In Class  – Students were to complete Reading Study Guide pages 36 and 37 and Workbook page 13.

Textbook Reading – Once the workbooks were completed then students were to read Chapter 5, Section 4 starting on page 132.

HOMEWORK

1. Be certain you have read Section 4 or Chapter 5. We will be discussing it in class tomorrow.

2. Be certain your warm-ups for Canada are in order and that you have the government organizational charts for the open notes quiz on Friday, February 5.

I hope you have a fantastic evening and stay warm. I will see you tomorrow. Thomas’ Adveture Travels signing off.      }:~)

Hi!

Another short day for the students. We are breezing right through each class. The students are enjoying having less time in class and more time at home. Before you know it Spring Break will be here.

Please don’t forget about the Book Fair that is going on in the Media Center this week. It is opened until 5:00 pm each day.

Those who did not get in their Star and Strikes information may still turn that in if interested.

CLASSWORK

* Today in class we looked how I can use SMART Notebook to enhance the warm-ups and other information being presented to the class. Students were most helpful in teaching me some additional things about the program. They have been seeing it used in math and have learned a lot about the SMART Board. Even though, I don’t have a smart board, there are many of the features that can be used in both Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.

* Next students took a pretest on the physical features of Canada. Those students who made a 100 will not have to take the test on Thursday, January 28. Don’t forget to study a little more those areas that were missed today.

* Presentations – Some presentations were completed today, although we have more to go. The Culture Boxes are looking really good. It is exciting to see what students have placed inside their box to represent their province or territory.

HOMEWORK

Continue to study for the physical features map test on Canada. It will be given on Thursday, January 28.

Have a wonderful afternoon and evening. I will see everyone tomorrow. Thomas’ Adventure Travels signing off.    }:~)

Hi!

Well, conference week has officially begun. I hope everyone has an appointment and will be able to meet with the conferencing teacher. I look forward to seeing all the parents.

The students are excited since they will be getting out early each day this week. Please make certain arrangements have been made for them coming home early.

Don’t forget the Book Fair is going on all week.

CLASSWORK

Today in class students received their map test back. It was very obvious that either a student studied for the test or they did not. This was a very easy map test with much less information to know than the Europe test. We even went over their study guides to be certain they had the information correct.

After giving back the map test, students then did their presentations of the culture box. These are going very well. However, I noticed that some students did not follow the rubric that was given with a check off area to be certain they were including all requirements. Students need to take advantage of this type of information whey provided.

The physical map test of Canada will not be tomorrow. I want to allow students additional time to be prepared to the test. It will be scheduled later in the week. A prestest will be given tomorrow to help student know if they are prepared for the actual test later.

HOMEWORK

1.  Continue to study for the physical map test of Canada. Use your study guide.

2.  Those who have not turned in a culture box project need to be certain to have it tomorrow. You are losing 10 points everyday it is late.

Have a wonderful evening, and I will see everyone tomorrow. Thomas’ Adventure Travels signing off.    }:~)
