Good Afternoon Students and Parents,

We met in the media center today. At the beginning of class, I assigned a biography to read as their next genre. They are to answer questions (handout provided) which we will use to complete a project.

Next, I update genres for those students who were either absent last Friday, or who are turning in a late grade.

The last part of class was devoted to updating reading logs.

If you were absent yesterday (Thursday, Feb. 4) and did not get me to sign your pass, I will meet you in the front lobby at 8:00 on Monday morning for you to complete your essay.

Dear Parents and Students,

I didn’t want to write my blog today until after I had spoken with my students today. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the results of my sentence test. However, the material is too important for students not to understand it.

I will be giving a second sentence test after I’m sure that most of my students know the material. These two grades will be averaged. If a student is happy with his original grade, he will be exempted from having to take the second test.

Parents, please don’t be stressed about this one grade. The genre grade that is due on Friday counts the same as this sentence test. It is still early in the grading period, and they will have multiple opportunities to improve their grades.

I stressed today that the students must tell me when they don’t understand something. I will go as slowly as I can until they understand sentence structure.  I am postponing the DGP Test until after the second sentence test.

I will try to find additional websites students for extra help. If you have further questions, please let me know.

Friday: 1/29  Read and Log 250 pages

1/29 – Complete 1 new genre

Have a great day.
