Benson’s Chorus Notes

On Monday and Tuesday of this week the 7th grade, 8th grade and Advanced choruses participated in Large Group Performance Evaluation. The groups definitely rose to the occasion. All groups received the highest markings overal from all three performance judges, a I or superior, and earned a strong superior in sightreading as well.
Comments made by the judges and clinician were extremely complimentary. More than one judge said of the Advanced Chorus, “This is the best group I’ve heard all day.” and that was at the end of the day.
Congratulations to all for your hard work. I am extremely proud of you!

Advanced Chorus has ended for this school year. We will get together one or two more times to plan and then have an end-of-the-year celebration. I will post details as I have them.

We will be going to LGPE on March 8th and 9th.

Permission forms and money are due by Wednesday, March 3rd. Students in 7th grade and Advanced Chorus who turn money in after Wednesday at 9:30 AM (or Thursday if no school on Wednesday) will NOT be able to get the Chick Fila lunch.

Please remember the 8th grade Chorus has an after-school rehearsal this Thursday. Please be here to pick your child up at 5:30.
They will not be allowed to go to the snack machine, so please have them bring a snack and drink to eat before the rehearsal begins.
Also, next Tuesday, March 9th we will go to Large Group Performance Evaluation. Students should be at school at 8:00 dressed in their performance attire. We’ll have a before school rehearsal and get on the bus no later than 9:15. Please feel free to come to Burnt Hickory Baptist for our performance at 9:45 AM.

Ms. Benson will be in Savannah for All-State Chorus on Thursday, February 25th, so there will be no Advanced Chorus practice. The next AC rehearsal will be Tuesday, March 2nd.

This week there are two concerts, one on Tuesday, February 16 and one on Thursday, February 18.
The Tuesday concert will be the 6th grade performance. Bullard Chorus will be coming to sing as well. Advanced Chorus and Men’s Chorus are also participating. Students should report at 6:00. The concert begins at 7:00. (I think there’s a Bullard PTA meeting before, so you might want to sit at 6:00 when you drop off your child.)

This is the pre-LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation) concert. Students should be dressed in their performance attire. GIRLS SHOULD HAVE HAIR PULLED BACK AND SHOULD HAVE NO JEWELRY. (Small, stud earrings are allowed.)

We will have auditions for the solo and descant for the 6th grade after school on Thursday, February 4th. Students will be finished and should be picked up by 5:15.

Practice tracks for she sings are attached as MP3 files. I hope they work! I know I don’t sound great on them, but hopefully you can use them to get comfortable with your part by Tuesday, January 26th.

The rescheduled All-State Chorus audition will be in the evening of this Friday, January 15th at Dickerson Middle School. Audition times are as follows:

The first meeting of Advanced Chorus for 2010 was on Tuesday, January 12th. At that rehearsal students were given a contract/letter which included the dates of concerts and rehearsals for the next two months. The letter is also attached. Please sign and return to Ms. Benson by Thursday, January 14th to indicate that you have received and agree with everything on it. The letter is also attached here.
