Welcome to Ms. Caldwell’s class! Below are the course descriptions for my 1st, 3rd, and 4th period classes:

Multicultural Literature (1st Period)

This literature and composition course includes the following units of  varied genre based studies: Introduction to Multicultural Literature,  Education, Family, Defining Ourselves, American Encounters, and Communication. Georgia Performance Standards that are grade-level appropriate are incorporated into this course: writing, conventions, listening, speaking, viewing, and reading across the curriculum. The literature is rich with the opportunity to explore such themes as realizing the American Dream, cultural uniqueness in a blended community, the power of diversity, and others. The literature also provides an exciting array of notable contemporary writers whose unique perspectives create powerful connections for all students.

9th Grade Literature (3rd and 4th Period)

The introduction and identification of the principles of Literature and Composition; with an emphasis placed on recognizing literary genres, critical thinking and analysis, speaking and listening, writing, word usage, and grammar. At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to read and understand different genres of literature, think critically, recognize vocabulary terms and grammar, and apply and connect literature to everyday life.

My expectation for this semester is for everyone to try their best no matter what. If you have high expectations for yourself, you will always strive to achieve them! Do your work at all times and study hard!!
