Quiz Today

Posted by: Kristi Campbell | March 5, 2010 | No Comment |

1.  download agenda – march 5 10

2.  Today we took the M7G3 quiz.  Remember so far I only have two grades in the M7G3 category, so until I get more grades entered into that category this quiz counts 10% of your overall grade.  That will change as soon as I enter more grades for the M7G3 category.

Overall, the quizzes we not great.  Each year I teach seventh grade math I find this is such a hard concept for seventh graders to grasp.  I’ll continue to include some of these problems in our warm ups, and you also need to continue to learn those rules.

We began indirect measurement today, which most of you are very familiar with.  As students finished the quiz you had time to work on the indirect measurement packet.  Please remember you do not need to do the entire packet for homework.  We complete the first page (page 154) together and most of the second page (page 155).  Number one on page 156 is missing the length of the shadow, so you don’t have enough information to answer that one, so you just need to complete page 155 and page 156.  This is a total of seven problems.

Also remember in order to receive full credit you need to draw a simple picture for #3-6.  No need to spend a lot of time on the drawings.  I gave you an example of how simple I want here.  The purpose is just to have a diagram to help you answer the questions.  I’m not grading your artwork.

Have a great weekend :) !

Big Quiz Tomorrow!

Posted by: Kristi Campbell | March 4, 2010 | No Comment |

1.  download agenda – march 4 10

2.  We’ve worked worked for six straight days on area and perimeter of similar figures.  I’ve given you a warm up each day to review this standard.  We’ve practiced and practiced and now it’s up to you to study.

Would you like a hint on what to study?  First of all, memorize those rules.  Second, look back over the warm ups we’ve done this week.  Try reworking those problems.  Third, look over the worksheet we did on Friday called “Area & Perimeters of Similar Figures” and rework these problems.  The quiz is very similar to this worksheet that was assigned on Friday and we went over all the correct answers on Monday.  (Shhhhhh. . . .don’t tell anyone, but some of the problems are even the exact same as this worksheet.)

For those of you that have been studying, I’m sure you’ll do fine.   We will begin indirect measurement after the quiz.

Have a marvelous evening :) !

More Practice with Similar Figures

1.  Download Agenda – march 3 10

2.  Today we turned in the classwork from yesterday (Growing Logos).  We also completed another task that is very similar (Relationships of Similar Figures) to give you more practice before our quiz on Friday.  Please remember you must study those notes before Friday.  This will be our last heavily weighted grade before the end of the grading period next week.

Enjoy your evening :) !

1.  download agenda – march 2 10

2.  Today was AWESOME!  I know everyone was excited about getting out early because of the snow, but you guys did a great job staying focused and working with me.  THANK YOU!  It was exciting to see so many of you start to get the relationships between area and perimeter of similar figures.

I know this is a hard concept, but I saw most of you today really start to get it.  Remember, everything we did came straight from your notes.  When you answered questions today, I had you read the notes to me to show you how to get the answers.  Are you starting to understand how to use your notes?  I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to study those rules we talked about.  If you will look on the download of the agenda above, we wrote down the important facts that really need to be memorized and understood before our quiz on Friday.

The end of the nine weeks is next Thursday, so let’s just ace this quiz and bring up our grades :)  !  I know you can do it, it will just take some studying.  Begin today!

Enjoy the white, wet stuff.  I can’t wait to see what you know tomorrow!  You’re awesome!

Study, Study, Study

2.  Today we reviewed the graded M7G2 test.  Overall, the grades were not what I’d hoped.  When we reviewed the test together, I heard many students say,

“I just made careless errors”, or “I didn’t study the rules like I should have”, or “It wasn’t that hard, I can’t believe I missed that.”

Please remember the only way to learn this material is by studying your notes.  You really needed to have those rules memorized in order to do well on the test.  The same is true for the next test we will be taking.  You should memorize those four rules we have highlighted in our notes.

We will have a quiz Friday that looks very similar to the homework/classwork we reviewed today.  Be sure you know the relationship between areas of similar figures and perimeters of similar figures.  Spend 5-10 minutes each night memorizing those four rules.

Have a great evening :) !

Ratios of Perimeters and Areas of Similar Figures

Posted by: Kristi Campbell | February 26, 2010 | No Comment |

1.  download agenda – feb 26 10

2.  Today we reviewed similar figures.  Remember . . .

The ratio of the areas of similar  figures = Scale Factor Squared

The ratio of the perimeters of similar figures = Scale Factor

You need to memorize these rules.  Start learning this now.

If you did not finish the classwork, be sure to complete it for homework.

Have a marvelous weekend :) !

Remember. . .be checking Pinnacle.  This nine week grading period is almost over.

Watch this video to review ratio of areas.

M7G2 Test Today

Posted by: Kristi Campbell | February 23, 2010 | No Comment |

1.  download agenda – feb 23 10

2.  Today we reviewed the Dilations on the Coordinate Plane work from yesterday and took the M7G2 test.  There is no homework tonight :) !

Parents and Students:  We have five weeks left to get ready for the CRCT, and I need students to be prepared, on-time, and ready to learn.  We have a lot to accomplish in just five more weeks.  In my sixth block alone today, I had three students late, three other students with nothing to write with, and other interruptions in the first ten minutes of class.  We are missing important instructional time with these types of interruptions.  I need your help and support.  Please have your necessary materials, be on time, and complete the homework.  Parents, if you could also discuss this with your students, I would appreciate the support.

Have a great evening and be ready for a great day tomorrow.  We will begin the M7G3 unit over Similarity.

Test Tomorrow – STUDY!

Posted by: Kristi Campbell | February 22, 2010 | No Comment |

1.  download agenda – feb 22 10

2.  Today I handed back the graded review quiz from Friday.  Many people did well, however some of you did not do so well.  We reviewed the quizzes and then I gave you a 10 point quiz to add to your current quiz grade.  There is no reason to not do well on these quizzes (especially since you were allowed to use your notes).  If you used your graphic organizer and have been following along in class, you should have had no problems.

3.  Blocks 6 and 7 need to finish “I Have. . .Who Has. .” for homework along with the “Dilations on the Coordinate Plane”.  Everyone needs to study for the test.  You must have all the transformation rules memorized for tomorrow’s test.  I don’t typically give a lot of homework, but you will have to spend a little more time on math tonight.

Parents:  Progress reports went home on the 16th.  All progress reports should be signed and returned at this point.  If you haven’t seen your child’s progress report, please ask him/her for it.
