Off to Food!

September 15th, 2008

Students received new seating assignments which helps in developing important interpersonal and teamwork skills. All grades finished the Early Childhood Education standard by playing a jeopardy type game to assess their knowledge. The next few days will have students reviewing the American system of measuring ingredients; 1 cup, 3/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup, 1 Tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1/4 teaspoon, and sometimes 1/8 teaspoon. Students will learn how to measure liquids. A fun way to learn the correct terminology for different kitchen utensils and equipment is by playing a bingo-type game. To help students realize that cooking in a team is different from cooking in the home kitchen, students cooked playdough before starting this standard. The recipe is located at a previous post. Remember, we only have time to lightly explore the wonderful world of food preparation. There are so many career possibilities within this standard!
