7th and 8th graders were given a review of how to use the Cornell Method of taking notes. 6th graders were given a demonstration of how to use this method of quickly taking notes. The Nutrition dvd we are using for the nutrition portion of our standard gives information quickly. To help students watch, listen, and think about the new information, we will view this short video twice. We will share our notes and discuss the information tomorrow.

All students are copying a brief Manners Tip for their Warm-up the first five minutes of FACS class as we study through our Food, Nutrition, and Wellness standard. Later (this will be announced) students will take a test over all the tips. Those students that are following through by writing down the manner’s tip of the day will be allowed to use their written warmups as they take the test.

The majority of my 6th graders remembered to complete and bring in their Family Name Acrostic Project. I will take late points off tomorrow for those students that forgot to bring in their completed project. One of the built-in objectives of this assignments was to foster communication with parents concerning family characterics and traditi0ns. I am enjoying reading these projects as well as the completed 7th and 8th grade projects.

7th and 8th graders did well with their first facs project. Since 6th, 7th, and 8th graders use the same curriculum, only part of the Family Traditions Acrostic Project was assigned to the younger students. To make sure the 6th graders would remember the instructions, each copied them down from the dry-erase board into their agenda on today’s date. Each 6th grader was given a legal size sheet of blank paper which was turned vertically (there is one of those math words) and were to creatively write the letters of their last name. Then beside each letter, to list a family characteristic. Then beside the word, to write a sentence explaining how/why that word was used to describe their family. The completed last name acrostic is due at the beginning of class tomorrow. Enjoy talking of family and what makes your family unique!

7th and 8th graders are asked to talk with family members to communicate family traditions as well as family characteristics. Students are to choose 3 of the following 5 choices to complete their Family Traditions Acrostic Project; 1. Poem – What’s a Family Tradition? (written by you) 2. Family Story – Write about a story that has been passed down by your family 3. Family Words- 3 funny or unusual words your family uses. Explain the word meaning, who started it, and why 4. Family recipes – On an index (or recipe) card write a special family recipe 5. A person of special importance – Write a paragraph about a family member that is important to you and why. Students, remember to express your family history and traditons with creativity! You can use magazine to cut out pictures, use your computer to print clip art, and/or photos. Have fun talking about family with family and be prepared to complete your project by the end of class tomorrow.
