Textiles, Fibers, and Sewing Project
October 27th, 2009
Monday was the due date for students to bring in their one yard of fabric (36″ x 45″). Each student will watch a demonstration of how to properly fold their fabric and then pin the pillowcase or apron pattern to the fabric. The next step for the students is to cut the fabric to have the same shape of the paper pattern. On Wednesday, students will mark the sewing lines on their fabric. This requires every student to correctly identify 1/2 inch on a ruler, position the ruler on the fabric, and then mark the fabric exactly that distance from the edge of the fabric. This is a real-world application of math!
