¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
Welcome to Spanish class! Spanish I focuses on the development of communication skills and will introduce you to the Spanish language and the culture from 21 different Spanish-speaking countries. You will learn how to greet and introduce someone, discuss likes/dislikes, describe family/friends, order/discuss food, talk about pastimes, and more!
We will cover a different thematic unit every 3-4 weeks. Quizzes will be given during the unit and a test, oral presentation and/or project will be given at the end of each unit.
Materials:
- 1” 3 ring binder OR a designated section in a larger binder (A day or B day)
- Notebooks will be checked twice each 9 weeks. This syllabus and the Georgia Performance Standards should be in the front of your notebook.
- Spiral notebook (1 subject – any color)
- 8 dividers (We will label these in class with the unit titles).
- notebook paper
- Pencils and/or blue or black pens
- Cover for book. Your book MUST be covered at all times.
Please have ALL of these materials with you EVERY DAY along with your book and workbook.
Participation:
It is critical that you participate everyday. I encourage you to take risks and be creative with the language. It is by practicing, making errors and correcting yourself that you will learn. A participation grade will be given every 2 weeks. Each student will start with 100 points. There are two rules: 1. Be engaged (on the correct page, answer when called on, etc.) and 2. Answer Spanish questions in Spanish. They will receive a 5 point deduction called a “Págame” for rule violations. Students may make up these “págames” (up to 2 per day) by completing one of the following prior to the next class period: 1. initiate a 5-6 line conversation with me in Spanish (after class) or 2. write a 25 word essay in Spanish. If a student earns 3+ “págames” in one class period, the parent will be contacted to discuss the student’s participation in class.
Homework:
Homework may not be given everyday, but it is necessary to review vocabulary and other material studied in class every night. Homework is intended to be used as a review of the material taught that day. Homework assignments will be listed each day on my BLOG. You can access my BLOG from McClure’s website: http://www.cobbk12.org/schools/mcclure/ Click on Teacher Blogs and then click on my name, Mrs. Goelz.
Make-up Policy:
Attendance is VERY important. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed while you were out. You can find the Agenda for the day and all assignments on my BLOG which will be updated every other day by 6:00 pm. There will also be a printout of the BLOG available in my classroom in a notebook on the back table. You will need to copy any notes that were taken while you were absent from a classmate (or from the blog if available). If you have any questions about the work that you missed, please ask me. When you return and you need to make up assignments, you have as many days as you were absent to make them up. If you were absent when an assignment was due, it is due immediately upon your return. If you were absent for a quiz or test, please refer to my make up times at the beginning of this syllabus. All quizzes and tests need to be made-up within one week of the absence.
Late work:
Late homework will not be accepted except for students with excused absences.
Students with unexcused absences or students who are in class but fail to turn in an assignment on time may turn in assignments up to 2 class periods late for half credit. After 2 class periods, the grade will change to a 0.
Behavior Management:
I will follow the school wide behavior management plan. Please refer to those policies.
