Solid Figures

Today we started a new unit on Solid Figures.  We watched a movie in class called “Flatland”  that explained the differences between the various dimensions.  Homework tonight is in the Thick workbook page 342.  The problems require students to ESTIMATE and Area of Circles using 3 instead of 3.14 for pi.  Also, r stands for radius.

Similar Figures Unit Test

Today in class we worked on our end of Similar Figures and Scale Factor test.  Students will get extended time to work on this test.  All class period today and whatever time is needed tomorrow in class has been alotted.  Students will have the opportunity to review their study guides tonight to assist them in finishing or reviewing their tests tomorrow.

Students who finish early should bring a book for silent reading or take the opportunity to do homework in class tomorrow should they have the time.

There will be no other homework tonight or tomorrow.

Unit 6B post test study guide

Today in class we started working on the end of the unit test study guide.

The test is on Thursday and will cover similar figures, indirect measurement, scale factor and scale drawings.

Tonight’s homework is a worksheet 8-7 page 66 only.  Do all 10.  It is okay to use a calculator.  Show all work

Scale Drawings

Today in class we worked on scale drawings.  We were given a scale, for example 1 in = 20 miles, and we calculated either the actual distance or the distance on a map or drawing.

Homework is in the Thick workbook,  page 227

Unit 6B Post test is scheduled for Thursday.  It will cover similar figures, scale factor, and scale drawings.

Today in class we practiced solving for unknown sides and angles of corresponding figures.

Tonight’s homework is a worksheet with 10 problems.  Students were able to start solving in class.  Homework is what was not finished.  Students are able to use a calculator to solve.

Similar Figures

Today in class we started a new unit on Similar Figures.  We can use proportions (the box) to find the measure of a missing side.  Students also learned that corresponding angles of similar figures are EQUAL. 

The homework tonight is in the Thick workbook, page 217.  Use the box to solve for the missing side length and the fact that similar figures’ corresponding angles are equal.

It is okay to use a calculator on this homework.  The important part is to set up the proportions (the box) correctly.

Probability

Today in class we worked on probability scenarios where students had to figure out the Theoretical and Experimental Probability for various scenarios such as rolling a die, spinning a color spinner, tossing a coin, and drawing cards.

Unit 4 – Measurement

Today in class we worked on stations that allow groups to practice all that we have learned in Unit 4; measuring with a ruler, converting between units, and choosing an appropriate unit of measure.

The homework tonight is to study for the unit post test which will be on Thursday.   Tomorrow we will continue to review during the station work.  Students should know how to measure using inches and centimeters,  convert between units using “the box” and king henry died by drinking chocolate milk (metric), and choose appropriate units of measure, for example a small car would be measured in tons.

Today in class we worked on word problems involving customary measurement conversions.  We also practiced measuring with rulers.

This weekend’s homework is a worksheet involving metric conversions.  Students should use the acronym King Henry Died by Drinking Chocolat Milk (KHDbDCM)  the by is either meter, liter or grams.  This worksheet will be taken for a homework grade
