Today we learned about child labor in South Asia. Through role playing, we gained insight into this sad situation of children being forced to work in less than desirable conditions. Using our "brains", we brainstormed ideas of how to solve the problem of child labor in this region. Tomorrow, we will take our facts and ideas together when we write a two paragraph essay.

Remember: If you were absent Tuesday, 10/24, you need to make-up testing. It is your responsibility to come to me for make-up testing!
If you were absent:

Today we learned about South Asia’s economy and how they struggle with feeding over a BILLION people! Can you imagine? We learned about their different farming techniques and what they are doing to improve their economy. Their technology and manufacturing is improving and that led us into a discussion of globalization. We are not alone in this county of ours, are we?
We also took a side trip and talked about determining a person’s point of view (building skill for this chapter) and how it is important to be media literate. Tomorrow we will work on our India project as we learn more about Gandhi through video streaming.
Homework:
Complete worksheet p 139 (only the "point of view" side) and remember to bring in your materials for your project so that you can work on it in class.

Classwork:
Today, after desk olympics and appointment clocks were over, we spent some time reading and writing facts about two great men….Martin Luther King and Mohandas Gandhi. These two men were great leaders and gave their lives to improve the lives of others. I love their dedication. How cool…. These men also had many things in common. After we learned some facts about them, we ended class with a venn diagram comparing and contrasting their lives. Some things were very interesting such as Gandhi getting married at the ripe old age of 13 and both men having four children of their own. Other things were tragic as in their lives being taken by violence. The ironic part about their death is the fact that they were all about non-violence and spent their lives trying to educate others in being fair to all.
Hummm…….ironic……what does that mean? First five to tell me tomorrow gets a prize.
