Can you explain the word explain to me?

It seems that everyone had a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday. I know I did! It was tough getting up early and into a routine again. Sorry for not having a blog entry last night. I had a meeting right after school and was on the run…

Classwork:
Today we created word maps on those high frequency words that seem to get us into trouble when we are taking a test. I mean what exactly does "analyze" tell you to do? Hopefully, we can "recognize" these words and know their meaning when we need to "solve" a problem:) Remember to take those word maps home and have your parents help you with a sentence so that you can receive 3 extra points on your next assignment. We also updated our notebooks which really needed to be done and last but not least, on to our study guide over Chapter 26. Study guide? Could this mean??? Yes….
your chapter test and notebook quiz is on Thursday, 11/30th.

Homework:
Complete your study guide! Remember, this study guide has to be completed in order to play the review game. Don’t miss out on the fun!

If you were absent: Make sure that you update your notebook and complete your study guide. Also, see Mrs. Mullen for a word map. This word map will be graded.

This is Mrs. Mullen saying:

Extend yourself. Know what the word "extend" means…..

Career day in social studies!

Classwork:

Today we learned what it was like to have a really good job and a "not so good" job in a capitalist society. THEN, we learned how that would turn around if we lived in a socialist society. Things would surely be different! Fast food workers loved living in a socialist society while the doctors preferred the capitalist society in a heartbeat….get it…..heartbeat/doctor:) Mrs. Mullen is so clever! We ended this activity happy to be living in a country where you have more choices (in what you do for a living and what you buy). Hooray for the USA!

Homework:
none

If you were absent: No make-up work.

Capitalism vs Socialism…

Classwork:
We took a look today at two different economic systems. We talked about the pros and cons about both systems. We learned that few countries have purely capitalist or socialist economies, but rather a combination of both. Tomorrow we have a fun activity planned. We are going to be given different occupations under a socialist economic system and then under a capitalist economic system. Who will you be and how will you spend your money? You’ll find out tomorrow!

Homework:
none

If you were absent: You will need to find a friend to copy notes given in class today.

This is Mrs. Mullen saying:

Extend yourself. Appreciate your freedoms….

Where were your shoes made?

Classwork:
Today we started talking about the economy and government of China. We found out that many things that we buy are made in China. We took off our shoes (whew!) and saw that most of us were wearing shoes made somewhere in East Asia. Even our flags are made in China! Crazy, huh? We started a discussion about forms of governments and economic systems which we will continue tomorrow.

Homework:
none

If you were absent:
You will need to look in the blue crate (number 13) and complete the two-column worksheet over lesson 2 of our textbook. You also will need to find a friend and catch up on notes that were taken in class.

This is Mrs. Mullen saying:

Extend yourself. Be aware of things that you buy!

Lights, Camera, Action….

Classwork:
Whew! Today was a lot of fun acting out skits to reinforce our knowledge on the three philosophies of East Asia. Most skits were very good and helped us to understand the way people think. I think I said "the way" didn’t I? That makes me think of Daosim! Remember, you have a quiz over these philosophies tomorrow.

Homework:
Complete your study guide and then……study it!

If you were absent:
Study the information sheet that you highlighted on Wednesday. This will help you with the quiz.

This is Mrs. Mullen saying:

Extend yourself. Say nothing to hurt others (recognize this?)
