Classwork:
Today, after taking up the bumper stickers, we took a scavenger hunt to answer some key questions about Africa. It was a fun way to start the week and hopefully a good review for everyone. We then settled down and starting defining our vocabulary words.
Homework: Define key vocabulary ONLY on pp 427, 432, 435, 440, 467, 471, 474 and 479. These 13 words are to be defined on pp 153-154 of your notebook. I will check these words tomorrow for a homework grade.
Remember: If you did not turn in your bumper sticker today, 10 points will be deducted for every day that it is late. A special pat on the back for those that complete work on time:)

Today we continued our worksheets and discussions on world hunger. If you tuned in last night to American Idol, it was very interesting. The show was dedicated to world hunger and was connected to exactly what we have been talking about. How cool is that! If you taped the show, I would love for you to bring it in. I think we could benefit from watching…..
Homework:
none
Remember: I will be absent tomorrow. Remember to pick up your paper for the bumper sticker that you will be creating regarding world hunger. The bumper sticker is due on Monday, 4/30th. Also if you are in my 3/4th period and are going to enjoy your renaissance day tomorrow, I will have two worksheets for you to complete next week.

We finished our letters today to the child soldiers that live in fear daily in the countries of Africa. We then learned about apartheid and Nelson Mandela. What does Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and Gandhi have in common? You should know the answer to that question! What great men! We were then put into groups (Mrs. Mullen’s choice this time:) and are working on puzzle pieces that will create a timeline on the history of South Africa. We will finish this timeline project and present in class tomorrow. Hopefully, we will also update our notebooks tomorrow because we have many things to glue in.

Classwork:
Today our class took a somber look at the transatlantic slave trade. We saw a short presentation on the conditions of a British slave ship during the "Middle Passage" and read two different articles. The first article was a historical account of the process in trading slaves and the second article was a primary account of someone that endured the "Middle Passage". We ended class with an assignment to complete a slave diary. If you were absent, visit the blue crate for the articles and slave diary form. Your slave diary should be two paragraphs. Make sure to ask a class leader or me if you have any questions.
Homework:
Slave diary due Thursday, April 12th.

Trying to get back into the swing of things can be difficult but we quickly regrouped and reviewed our knowledge of Sub-Saharan Africa. We also reviewed several CRCT questions. I was quite impressed with our memory of facts and information about colonialism and physical geography of Africa. Tomorrow we will learn about the transatlantic slave trade of West Africa.
