In response to the recent floods in Cobb County, McClure Middle School is kicking off a Flood Relief Fundraising program. Beginning this coming Monday, September 28, we will be collecting supplies to replenish Clarkdale Elementary as well as surrounding schools and families affected by the flood. Donations could include any general school supplies (paper, pens/pencils, bookbags) for students AND teachers. As you are shopping or looking through cabinets, think about ANYTHING needed for school. Donated items should be new or gently used. Supplies will be collected September 28th through October 9th.

Open House
I am looking forward to meeting your parent(s )on Thursday night at the seventh grade open house. It starts at seven in your homeroom. After homeroom, your parent(s )will follow your daily schedule. For a few minutes ,your parents will get to experience your school day by walking in you shoes . Maybe your parents will surprise you with a book from the book fair.
Testing
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills testing, for seventh graders ,continues through Friday. Our schedule has been altered , but you guys are adjusting well. Come to school well rested, so you can do your best.
What about language arts?
In addition to our daily grammar practice and daily reading practice, we will start revising our animal stories. You should be able to create a great beginning, use vivid descriptions and add incredible dialogue. I almost forgot to mention, the story should have a suspenseful plot.
Homework: Show your million word challenge progress by recording some pages and thoughts on your log.
FYI: The narrative unit test retake is on Friday. This is optional if you and I are happy with the first grade.

Next Up: The story of “Rikki -Tikki -Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling. Can you write a story with an animal as the main character?
Homework: Last day for summer reading is tomorrow. Log some pages for the million word challenge .

Our mood for the day is excitement. We are excited to have a three day weekend. I hope the tone of this blog reveals the joy I get from being able to teach you guys on a daily basis. I know you enjoyed learning about mood and tone in narrative writing. What mood did “All Summer in a Day” leave you in?
Happy Friday. I look forward to seeing you again on Tuesday
