Make Up Work/ Late Work

Several of you have asked me about why your make up/late work has not been entered in Pinnacle.  Because of conferences this week, it will be very difficult to get that stuff graded until the end of the week.  I promise you that I will have those grades updated as soon as possible!  Don’t forget that Monday, February 1st is the last day to turn in any of your technical writing stations for partial credit!  (This includes any resubmits!)

What’s Happening to Our Grades?

In class today, we talked about the extreme drop in performance that we are experiencing in language arts.  As of right now, we have 42 students on our team who are in danger of failing language arts for the 3rd nine week period.  We talked a lot about the cause for this sudden drop in grades and in every situation, we are able to trace it back to one very specific reason: failure to turn in assignments.

Several of you did not turn in all of your poetry station assignments and are now seeing the consequence for that decision.  You have all asked if you can still turn the work in and as always, the answer is yes.  There will, however, be a 10 point deduction from all late assignments, so make sure you do your absolute best because those 10 points don’t come off of a 100%; it comes off of whatever grade you earned on the assignment!

All of your technical writing station instructions are located on the blog under the daily assignments/today’s task page.

Can’t Open the Links?

It has been brought to my attention that several of you are having difficulty opening links from the blog.  After looking into it, it is because our school is now using the newer Windows 2007 office software.  I found out that I can save our documents as the older 2003 version, so I am going to start posting two versions of any documents I create.  If one doesn’t open for you, hopefully the other one will.

As we were discussing this in class today, a student pointed out that another trick is to save the document and then to open it from there!

If, after trying both links, you are still unable to open something, please notify me immediately so that I can get you a copy of what you need.  If you contact me prior to the due date, I will be willing to work with you on getting the assignment in without penalty.  Coming to me after the assignment deadline, however,  will result in late points being deducted, so make sure you save yourself plenty of time to get in touch with me BEFORE THE ASSIGNMENT IS DUE!!!

Technical Writing Vocabulary Test

Just a reminder of your technical writing vocabulary test next Friday, January 22nd.  Everyone received a study guide/answer key in class on Tuesday of this week, but if you have misplaced it, I have placed it on the notes tab under daily assignments.  This test will be both multiple choice and matching.
