Poetry Think-Tac-Toe
Here is a copy of the Think-Tac-Toe (just in case!). Remember that you have to go through the middle (because you’ve already done that assignment – yay!) and that you CAN do an assignment for up to 20 extra points (but you don’t have to). To earn extra points: submit a project proposal (a paragraph explaining what you will do and for how many points) and have me approve and sign it. It is due BY the third assignment due date (2/22 B-2/23 A) but you may turn it in before that.

Think-Tac-Toe Due Dates:
Next assignment due 2/16 B – 2/17 A … be sure you turn in a project proposal by that day if you are interested in gaining extra points (extra points are optional).
Final assignment due 2/22 B – 2/23 A (extra point assignments must be turned in these days as well)
Checklist for grading: (there is one checklist for explanation paragraphs and another for poems that you create) Checklists for Think
*Extra Help on some of the assignments:
-Writing about Writing: The poem “The Writer” is about a father watching his daughter work through the writing process. In this poem, Wilbur uses several extended metaphors: he compares her to a ship on a voyage (look back at some of the words you don’t know from the first stanza or two; when you look them up, I’ll bet they have something to do with a ship or sea-faring) and then to a bird that was trapped inside the house and finally set free. *How do these two comparisons help us picture what his daughter does while she is writing???
-SONNETS….okay – this has been the hardest one for people to get completely right. There are several requirements of a sonnet:
1) 14 lines (3 stanzas of 4 lines each and then a couplet (2 lines) at the end)
2) specific rhyme scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG
3) The whole poem must be in IAMBIC PENTAMETER…that means 10 syllables on each line….
Sonnets are harder to write because you have to follow such a strict format – but that’s why you get so many extra points for doing one!
