Hi everybody,

Sorry, it’s been a few days since the last posting due to the snow day and me being out on Monday afternoon. I’ll post the catch-up PowerPoints below:

1.7          1.11    1.12

7th Grade: We are working on clay initial tiles, which will need to be finished by Friday at the end of class. We will start a new project while they dry and we wait to fire the. Once fired, we will paint them and seal them. Those who finish their tiles early this week, will have various early finisher assignments to choose from.

8th Grade: We are creating our alter-ego masks, which will be due on Friday at the end of class. We will then allow them to dry out so that we can fire them, and we will begin our self-portraits in the mean time.

6th Grade: We started working with clay today. Effigy vessel sketches were checked off, and we made and decorated coil pots to get used to working with clay.  Tomorrow, after a demonstration of different techniques, you will begin sculpting your effigy vessel based on your sketch.

Thank you to all who have have brought in items from the wish list! They will come in extremely handy!

Power Point: 1.6

If you forgot your syllabus today, please bring it tomorrow. Check PowerPoint, above, if you were absent or missed anything in class. Please remind me as well, to get your picture (photograph) upon return if I haven’t yet.

We worked on drawing from observation today, learning to start with basic geometric shapes and then slowly get into more complex, organic shapes. These drawings were turned in for a classwork grade.

Tomorrow, we will start brainstorming and working towards our first project, which will be clay for all classes. Please bring hand cream/lotion if you have it because the clay will dry out your hands in this wintry weather. 8th graders will be making alter-ego masks, 7th graders will be making clay initial tiles, and 6th graders will be making effigy vessels, or containers with the likeness of an animal. Look forward to it!
