Parents, we will cover Lessons 7, 8, and 9. Lesson 7 consist of the skill Reading Strategies, in which our students will use to better comprehend text. These strategies include asking questions of themselves and others to clarify unfamiliar words or phrases, forming pictures in their minds to aid with comprehension, and connecting new learning with prior knowledge.
Lesson 8 consist of the skill Setting, in which students will learn that the setting is one of the elements of story structure. The students will obtain the skill of identifying a setting of a text and use this knowledge when reading or listening to a new story.
Lesson 9 consist of the skill Retelling, in which students will learn the process of describing in their own words what they have read. This skill includes the main idea and supporting details of the text. In fiction text, it may include the setting, events, characters, and plot. Learning this skill will provide insight into our students’ interpretations of what they have read.
