Thursday and Friday in class…

  • Mrs. Roll, our new 8th grade counselor, presented information about  high school registration. Registration week starts next Monday!
  • We finished taking notes (on your own) over the last two sections of chapter 21.
  • If you did not finish the section review questions in class for sections 3 and 4, you need to finish them for homework.

Remember that if you did not like the grade you made on the Waves test and want to do a re-take you MUST come to 2 help sessions before I will schedule a re-take with you. You only have until Tuesday, Feb. 16th to complete BOTH help sessions. If you do not make the effort to complete your help sessions before that date you WILL NOT be allowed a re-take for this test. Help sessions will be offered on both Tuesday and Thursday at 8:15 AM up until that date!

We have spend the last few classes looking at the basics of waves. There will be a quiz next class over chapter 20. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR VOCABULARY!!!

Today in class we finished up notes on section 3 (wave interactions) and did the last set of section review questions. We also completed 3 wave mini-labs. Any of this information along with any information from last class is fair game for the quiz!!

Jan. 14 and 15

January 14th, 2010 by Mrs. Byrd in Uncategorized · No Comments

Today in class students worked on corrections for their Chemistry Quiz. Grades were a little low and we needed to spend a bit more time looking at this information before moving on. The last half of class we started our introduction to waves. Next week we will finish up notes and start working on some labs about waves.

5B and 7B are a little behind the other classes. They will be completing their Chemistry Quiz in class on Friday. We will still do the introduction to waves, but will save corrections for sometime next week as we scramble to catch up!

I will have grades from the first two week in Pinnacle by Sunday evening. If you have not taken the Chemistry Quiz, please make that up as soon as possible. Remember that you only have the same number of days to make up work as you missed. For example, if you were out 1 day you only get one extra class to make up the work. If you were out 2 days you get 2 extra days to make up the work. It is your responsibility to make sure you get your missing assignments.

Monday and Tuesday in class…

December 14th, 2009 by Mrs. Byrd in Uncategorized · No Comments

Today we took the short quiz over the periodic table and then reviewed the information for the first half of the chemistry of cooking unit. The assessment for this half will be on Wednesday for B-day and on Thursday for A-day.

Unfortunately, behavior has been less than wonderful. I know that as we get closer to the end of week it is more and more difficult to focus. Students were warned that if their classroom behavior was not good they would not be participating in the pancake lab. Sadly, there are already students who will have to do the alternate assessment. I am currently working on a study guide for those students and will have it posted by mid-day tomorrow.

Students in my 5B class, since half of the class was trying to be cooperative while the others were off task only those who were off task will be completing the alternate assessment. If you’re not sure which category you fit in,  come see me and I’ll let you know.

We took notes on the Periodic Table today in class. Students who did not complete the heat transfer diagrams last class finished that today(see the previous blog entry if you are still working on it). Everyone was also given the Periodic Table scavenger hunt. Any work not completed in class needs to be finished as homework.

Next class there will be a quiz over the Periodic Table. Studetns need to use their color-coded table to study from!
