iCommunication: Understanding The Role of Technology In Your Child’s World
Posted by: Mr. Gandolfo | August 20, 2010 | 1 Comment |Georgia PTA, in conjunction with the Ridgeview Institute, is offering an informational workshop for parents and guardians of adolescents who are using various forms of technology. This workshop addresses how adolescents are using social networking websites, text and “sext” messaging, emailing, smartphone apps and more. The bulk of the workshop is designed to address how parents can not only become more aware of what adolescents are doing, but how they can use technology to monitor, limit and even restrict their child’s access to the Internet and text messaging.
The workshop will be held on September 15 from 10 -11:30 a.m. It is free of charge and no reservations are required. It will be held at the Ridgeview Institute, 3995 S. Cobb Dr., Smyrna. For more information, visit this GAPTA_Flyer_Sept_15_2010-2[1]
I am pleased to welcome you to the 2010-2011 school year at McClure Middle School. I am Peggy Gorhum, McClure PTSA President for the new school year.
Have you ever wondered where your membership dues and fundraising money go? The PTSA supports many activities enjoyed by the students throughout the year; we give money to support the after school clubs that are available to any child attending MMS; we support our wonderful MMS Staff throughout the year with various events; and much more!
None of what we do is possible without the direct support of our fabulous McClure families.
Are you able to volunteer? If so, please contact me directly! MMS PTSA has volunteer openings that fit every schedule. There are one-time events, as well as ongoing programs, and even tasks you can perform at home. Let us know what your schedule will accommodate and where your interests lie, and we will help you find the volunteer opening that fits you! Volunteering does not mean a full time job. You help as little or as much as your schedule allows.
Our meetings are open to everyone! I want to stress that you do not have to be a PTSA Board Member or PTSA Chairperson in order to attend a meeting. We welcome new faces and new ideas! Last year we had very poor turnout at the meetings, and we would like to improve the attendance. Meetings are held throughout the year. Check the calendar located in this agenda for meeting dates. Please consider joining us. We’d love to meet more people and get a wider range of input into what we are doing and how effective we are. Help us to make the PTSA a better vehicle to support the students and the school.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in our fundraisers, bought Spirit Wear, joined the PTSA, made a Direct Donation, or volunteered or donated items for one of our events. You help to make everything we do possible, and we greatly appreciate your support.
On behalf of the PTSA Board of Directors, we hope you and your student(s) have a rewarding and successful school year!
Early Release on Thursday, May 20 and Friday, May 21
Posted by: ckirkland | May 12, 2010 | No Comment |ATTENTION PARENTS!! Please note that Thursday, May 20 and Friday, May 21, there will be Early Release for Cobb County schools. High schools will dismiss at 11:30am, middle schools at 12:30pm, and elementary schools at 1:30pm.
An end of the year Renaissance Carnival will be held on Friday, 5/21. We want to ensure the students have one last amazing celebration before they start their summer break. To make this happen, we need parent/friend volunteers from 11:30am to 3:45pm and will attempt to staff the activities in 1/2 hour increments. We will have several activities and games going on at the same time. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Chris Susskind. Please be sure to include the timeframe in which you are able to work. Due to the number of events and the amount of students involved, we ask that you do not bring any younger siblings to the event.
We appreciate your time in advance and look forward to seeing you there!
Monday, May 3rd is the start of Teacher Appreciation Week at McClure. We are nearing the end of another successful year at the school and we need your help to show all the teachers and staff how much we value their hard work and dedication to our students! The PTSA Hospitality Committee is organizing three events this week to help show our McClure teachers that we think they’re the best!
Monday morning will be a “grab and go” breakfast with breads and muffins from Great Harvest Bread Company and coffee from The Daily Grind. Tuesday will be our Teacher Appreciation luncheon, catered by Buffalo’s. On Thursday, May 6th we will have our homemade dessert buffet, and this is where we need your help! Yours is the “home” in our “homemade”! We would like to have a great assortment of homemade dessert items sent in by our McClure families to finish out our week. Anything you want to make and send in will be greatly appreciated! We will need the dessert items sent in by 9:30am on Thursday, May 6th. If you need your dish returned, please put your name and phone number on the bottom of the dish.
While we want you to express your gratitude to your children’s individual teachers as well in your own ways, we hope that you’ll also be able to help us out with our desserts on Thursday. We really need everyone’s help to make this event a success. The teachers so love homemade goodies! If you are able to help by sending in an item, please e-mail DJ Siniard and let us know what you are donating. Thanks so much for your support!
