MATH, MYTHS and MUSIC
We are begining our review of basic facts using the topics of Mythology and Music. We will be doing Mythololgy over the next two weeks. Ms. Andrews began the unit in Language Arts, and we will be using our knowledge or enjoying the topics for our math problems.
Today we will begin by hearing the math myth, “The Fly on the Ceiling.” It explains in a myth
format how Rene DeCartes came up the the Cartesian Plane (the coordinate plane). We will then use our coordinate planes to graph the constellations of Hercules and his tasks.
Other activities we will be doing are word problems using mythology as the basis of the problem, calculations with Greeks as our theme, and possibly a project using math and myths.
We have also begun a word challenge for our morning warm up. These are similar to Sudukos, but not as eleborate. The students were frustrated at first yesterday, but then began to enjoy the challenge. They earn a token for getting one correct.
