Grades Update

I have changed the categories and percentages for this nine week’s grading period. Since the students did not have sufficient skills in the coordinate plane, this became it’s own category.  Learning to graph with negatives is part of the current standard, but we are separating it as a category. Direct/Indirect will be weighted as 45%, Coordinate Plane 20%, Review 10%, and Tranformations 25%. Transformation will be continued into the next nine weeks.

Their review grades are not good. These are weighted with a small grade percentage. However, I want everyone to see how they are doing on these and hopefully see improvement. The review sheets have been based on both review of things taught a week before and on concepts learned in the beginning of the year. Most are multiple choice, CRCT based questions. We will continue to work on remembering concepts and taking our time on multiple choice type questions.

February 1 – Direct Variation Practice

Last week’s paired activity went well on discovering the characteristics of Direct Variations. We took notes on a power point. However, when we tried on Friday to do more tables and find constants, we had difficulty. After grading their paired work as well, we need to do more reinforced work.

Today we will be working on both graphing correctly and solving equations by using coordinate peg boards that allow us to physically move and plot the points. We will also be finding the constant by making fractions of y over x . or y/x  or y divided by x. This seems to be the most difficult concept.

Hope to have a quiz on Thursday of Direct Variations. Attached are some notes. The students will also be given hard copies.
