We have been taking the 2step equations test over the last two days. I wanted to make sure everyone had plenty of time to complete them accurately.  Most of the students will be out for the field trip on Friday.

Today we practiced more two step equation problems. These were done individually and checked by me as  each problem was completed. Those that finished this sheet were given another that allowed them to self check.

QUIZ TOMORROW ON 2step equations.

HW: Equation sheet.  Answers are included in this to allow the students to self check. This lets them accurately  practice for tomorrow’s quiz. They must show work in order to get credit for the homework.

HW Answers

We practiced test taking skills on our warm up. We also reviewed solving one step equations by working problems around the room.

QUIZ tomorrow – one step equations

HW: puzzle work sheets. Answer key – 1-11 pg 90

Why did the robber take a shower? He wanted to make a clean get away.

Answer key 1-12 pg 98

Continued working on one-step equations.  We practiced multiply/dividing problems. Worksheet involves add/sub and mult/divide.  We will start two step equations soon.

HW: Worksheet number problems 1-9 only.

November 4 – One step equations

Monday we started our new unit on Linear Equations. We broke down the standard to find what we were going to learn and the vocabulary associated with it. I also introduced them to Algebra Tiles by demonstrating how we will use them to solve equations.

We are now doing Algebra and solving for the variable.

Today each student had a set of algeblocks and we worked through problems both using the tiles/blocks and with math. They are learning the concept that in order to get the variable by itself, you need to “get rid of” the numbers with the variable. They do the opposite operation so that they have “zero pairs” that cancel each other and leave the variable. Attached is a step by step guide that the students will get next week when we begin two-step equations. However, if they want to look at it now, it will help guide them through the process.

Solving equations steps

November 4 – one step

HW: Worksheet problems 1,2,6 and 7  THEY MUST SHOW THE WORK.

I will be out on Thursday and Friday. They will be reviewing their integer rules and one step equations. This is essential from them to do well on two step equations.
