September 3 – UNIT TEST TOMORROW

Filed under Unit 1 - Data

We reviewed with work around the room today. The students still have the study guide and the answers are on the blog. A copy of the study guide is also on it. If they can do these then they should do well on the test. The questions on the study guide are very similar to the test.

Filed under Unit 1 - Data

I have been out with the flu today. Should be back tomorrow. The students had review worksheets to work on in class.

They were given a Study Guide M7D1 on Monday. They were to begin working on these during the week for homework. Attached is the worksheet and the answer key. We will be reviewing these in class, but my goal is for them to remember how to do it correctly, not just do the problems. Please feel free to check their answers against the key and have them redo anything they missed.

They will not know about scatter plots on the back page. We were to learn them today, but with the sub, I don’t think they did. Just hve them work on the Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Box and Whiskers, etc.

August 31 Quiz on Box and Whisker

Filed under Unit 1 - Data

Today we turned in our Name Box n Whiskers. We also took our quiz on Box n Whiskers. The students were allowed to use their notes and I kept all visual aides up in the classroom.

HW: I handed out a review worksheet that covers everything they will need to know for the unit test on Friday. They are only to work on half of the front page. They will continue working on this and we will review the answers each day. Meanwhile, we will be learning about Scatter Plots this week. The back side of the worksheet has problems relating to them. We will do them for homework later this week.

August 38 – Explore with your Name

Filed under Unit 1 - Data

We used our names to give us data. Each letter stands for a different number. They are then required to find the Mean, Median, Mode, Range, Lowe Quartile, Upper Quartile, Lower Extreme, Upper Extreme, Initerquartile Range, Outliers.

Then create a box and whisker plot on a white sheet of paper. Decorate it and paste on the construction paper. The white and colored papers have been supplied to the student.

They are to finish this for homework. A quiz will be on Monday over Box and Whiskers. Unit test next Friday.

HW pg 247 worktext

Today we continued working on making box and whiskers. We also reviewed where the quartiles are and that each quartile is 25%.

Remember in the homework -when they ask for the “fraction” you are giving the percent. The data is listed in a table form, but those are the numbers you use for the data.

Measures Of Central Tendency

Filed under Unit 1 - Data

We have been learning about measures of data that find the center – Measures of Central Tendency.

Mean – the average – add all the numbers and divide by the total number of numbers

Median – the middle number after all the numbers are lined up.

Mode – the number that is there the most

Range – the difference (subtraction) of the largest number and the smallest number

Outlier – a number that is an extreme – it does not lie within the rest of the data – it lies “out”side the data
