got hope???

You may have heard that there is a t-shirt sales campaign going on at McClure and not know the background of the ”why”. At McClure, we have several students dealing with significant medical issues (among those cancer and organ transplant needs). We as a school community wanted to reach out to help those families and to show our support for them financially and visually.

Each advisement group was asked to develop a theme – one line – that would show visual support for these students as we wear the shirts, but also generate conversation about why we are wearing them. Each advisement group submitted suggestions and the student body as a whole chose the winning theme “got hope?”

We are currently selling the t-shirts for $10 or a bracelet that says got hope? for $3. You can purchase both as a set for $12. All proceeds from the shirts will be given to these families to meet the additional financial needs that they are incurring. The families may choose to give the funds to the charity of their choice if they personally don’t need the funds. One of the families has been assisted tremendously by the Rally Foundation and may earmark the funds they receive for that organization.

This is a time where we can all step out and make a personal difference to students at our school. We hope that you will purchase a shirt and talk to your friends and neighbors about purchasing one as well to help these families! The shirts are on sale for the next few days and are available in black with white print, black with hot pink print and brown with turquoise print. Checks may be made payable to McClure Middle School PTSA.

Thanks for your support!

Susan Wing, Principal

The other students were to continue working on worksheet 10-9. This worksheet is not available on a document, so I cannot attach it.

I have attached the check list of things we will be doing this week. The student’s grades are based on this. I continue to check as they do them. If they are missing an assignment, they have until the end of the week to make it up. checklist- rotations

Last week we worked on Reflections. Today we begin Rotations. There are rules for finding the new points of a rotation. These have to be memorized in order to correctly find the new points. Please take the time to memorize these rules. They are listed on the study guide given at the beginning of the unit and on the Blog.

We rotated figures on a coordinate plane so they could see how the figures changed as they were rotated. Then we determined points using the rules and checked to see if our figures were on those points.

Some began worksheet 10-9 in class. This will be continued tomorrow.

RULES: ROTATION

90 degrees CLOCKWISE – switch the x and y and change the new y value to it’s opposite. Example (-4, 5) rotated clockwise is (5, 4).

90 degrees COUNTER CLOCKWISE – switch the x and y and change the new x value to it’s opposite. Example (-4, 5) rotated counter clockwise is (-5, -4).

180 rotations – change the x and y to their opposites (negative to positive or positive to negative). Example (-4,5) 180 rotation is (4, -5).

TEST ON THURSDAY FOR ALL TRANSFORMATIONS

I have created a check off sheet to go in each student’s folder. It allows them to see what they have completed and what they still need to complete by the end of the week. I check off as they complete it and also grade them. These sheets include homework and classwork assignments. Sometimes it is based on working on a group activity and participating not just a paper assignment. Today they were assessed on their use of peg board graphing, and I was visibly able to see whether they were working or not.

These sheets stay in their class folders along with daily assignments. Completed homework stays in these as well. A sample of this week’s assignment sheet is attached.

Today we introduced Reflections. We plotted points on a coordinate peg board. We then found the reflection of it. We located how far from the axis each point was and then counted in the opposite direction the same distance.

We learned the rule for the math of finding the new points if we are only given points. “Reflect over the x (axis) you change the y (value of y to it’ opposite – positive or negative).” “Reflect over the y, you change the x.” It’s not a difficult concept, but they do have to memorize the rule.
