A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, a busy and very, very productive week has ended. It was amazing how much we accomplished on a shortened class schedule each day in science.  Many, many packets of student work are now currently displayed on the Wall of Fame. Check yours in class!  I am so proud of you all.  Let’s have another super week this week in science as we start out the new month of February.  Friday, we sang so well and learned so much about the ocean with our catchy Tik Tok chorus.  One of the best singing weeks so far.  Great beat and tune! We also continued our labeling of ocean floor features and many teams reached the peak of the pyramid during our pyramid race competition.  A 100% percent was earned by all of those teams and the remainder of the teams reached level 4 or 5 before time was up which was the A range.  Awesome team work and focus on this fast paced activity.  During the pyramid race, teams were challenged on their labeling of two visuals, one of the ocean floor, and the other of the water cycle and its parts.  Way to be accurate in your labeling.  It was a race to the finish.  More of this to come in the near future with a new topic.     Also, a pyramid race take home test was handed out on Friday and is due Monday.   This was homework for over the weekend and does count as a TEST MASTERY GRADE! Make sure you follow all the instructions on the pyramid race test.  You should do very well on this.  We will grade it on Monday so be ready!   On Monday, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing our special hallway of points activity on Monday where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close.  We will see how well you know these features one last time and see your mastery of where these features are found and what information best describes them.  Be ready for fast paced answers, descriptions, visuals, and moving to certain areas of the hallway that represent certain areas and features of the ocean floor.  The stopwatch is ready to move…Are you? We will also grade our Take Home Test on Monday as well. Great results are expected on this!  We will also have a mapping lab  and graphing of the ocean floor activity on Tuesday of this week.  We will see how your graph resembles the ocean floor and its many features. If you construct your graph correctly and plot your points accurately you will get a great look into the features of the ocean.  It will be awesome! Be ready to add a Wow factor to your graphing of the ocean floor lab.  Come in early on Tuesday morning and get a head start on this graphing lab so you will have time for the Wow factor.    On Wednesday of this week, we end our ocean part of Hydrology with our unit test over the features of the ocean.  By then, you should be set to do terrific on this. I expect the best again, just like we did on the water cycle unit test.  After the test,  we  also will get a quick intro and start on discssing currents with a textbook style game after the test.  Be ready for a NCAA tournament game set-up for this or maybe even a mapping game over deep and surface currents and maybe even a special record player turntable Coriolis Effect demonstration by DJ limpertstein.  We will have to wait and see.   On Thursday and Friday of this week we move on to waves.  Thursday, we will have demo day as Mr. Limpert and the class will be performing 2 demos to show how waves form and what causes them.  We will also define what a wave is and label the main parts of a wave.  We will end with a game to review wave formation and parts of a wave.  A student response packet will be handed out for demo day.  On Friday, we will be creating the human wave to reinforce and show the main parts of a wave.  After our light’s off/brain’s on human wave, student lab teams will be responsible for discussing one main part of a wave in detail.  This includes a written description of the part, an illustration and a short skit/role-play or dance step to show what the part of the wave looks like and what it means.  Each student in the lab team will have a particular job and role to play to guarantee success and understanding of the content.   Student lab teams will present this and we will end the class with a rockin 80’s tune by Bon Jovi or a new hit single by Justin Bieber dealing with parts of a wave and a lonely ocean floor.  After waves, we move on to currents and the Coriolis Effect.    A lot of cool activities are continuing with these new topics including a Nike Investigation dealing with currents.    Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Monday, 2/1-Ocean floor features/hallway station activity day/Star Science Students announced/Grade Take home Test
Tuesday 2/2-Wrap up ocean floor with mapping lab
Wednesday, 2/3- Ocean floor Unit test/Intro to currents…
Thursday, 2/4-Waves-causes and how they form-demo day/Currents Map/Coriolis Demo??Record Player??
Friday, 2/5-Parts of a wave activity and lab day/Friday Science Song Quiz
Monday, 2/8-Surface and Deep Currents/Coriolis Effect chart activity
Tuesday, 2/9-Review Currents and Coriolis/Demo Day! Nike Investigation

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, it has sure been a fast and very productive week in science.  I have enjoyed talking with your parents this week and going over the great things you are accomplishing each day in science.  But, don’t forget, there is always room for improvement and ways to keep us on the right track for a successful 3rd nine weeks.  Keep being great young scientists! Yesterday in science we toured different areas of McClure in hopes of finding items that represented and related to the continental shelf, the continental slope, the continental rise, abyssal plain, mid-ocean ridge, a rift valley, seamounts, volcanic islands, and ocean trenches.  What fantastci chart work you turned in and completed as you illustrated and described which feature here at McClure symbolized those features of the ocean.  Many of you have your week’s worth of work up on the Wall of Fame.  It has been a busy week with many pieces of work turned in.  Great work! Thanks for another exciting day on 6-B! Today, we end our busy week on oceans with our pyramid races over our ocean material for the week.  Which team will get to the top of the pyramid first?  Which level will you end up at? How did your team work together on this? Did you correctly match the description of the ocean floor item to the feature it belongs to? How many did you get correct? Did you add a simple illustration for the Wow factor to each category on your chart? This is sure to be a race to the finish.   Remember, success by the entire team and great team work equals success on the pyramid races. We end this week with a Hydrology song that reviews water distribution, water underground, the ocean and the water cycle.  This is a catchy, sing-a-long song that was the number #1 song in America recently.  Be ready for a Tik Tok kind of chorus.  Also, a pyramid race take home test has been handed out to students today.  This is homework for over the weekend and does count as a TEST MASTERY GRADE! Make sure you follow all the instructions on the pyramid race test.  You should do very well on this.  We will grade it on Monday so be ready!   Next week, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing our special hallway of points activity on Monday where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close.  We will see how well you know these features one last time and see your mastery of where these features are found and what infromation best describes them.  We will also grade our Take Home Test on Monday as well.  We will also have a mapping lab  and graphing of the ocean floor activity on Tuesday of next week.  We will see how your graph resembles the ocean floor and its many features. If you construct your graph correctly and plot your points accurately you will get a great look into the features of the ocean.  It will be awesome!  On Wednesday of next week, we end our ocean part of Hydrology with our unit test over the features of the ocean.  By then, you should be set to do terrific on this. We also will get a quick intro and start on discssing currents with a textbook style game after the test.  Be ready for a NCAA tournament game set-up for this.  On Thursday and Friday of next week we move on to waves. Student lab teams will present this and we will end the class with a rockin 80’s tune by Bon Jovi dealing with parts of a wave.  After waves, we move on to currents and the Coriolis Effect.   A lot of cool activities are continuing with our topic of the ocean.  Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Friday, 1/29-Ocean floor pyramid races/sonar/Limpertstein Hydrology Friday Science Song Quiz Day! Take home Test!
Monday, 2/1-Ocean floor features/hallway station activity day/Star Science Students announced/Grade Take home Test

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, conference week continues to move by quickly, but we have done super managing to cover a lot of inforamtion in our short class times.  Thanks for your focus 6-B.  This has been a wonderful week of science so far.  Yesterday in science, we reviewed our oceans of the world powerpoint and notes sheet and labeled where they are located.  We also communicated our knowledge of the main features of the ocean floor via dry-erase boards.  We described them, illustrated them, came up with a symbol for them, a one word description of them, and even asked a classmate what they thought that part of the ocean floor was.  It was a moving, fast-paced, and fun way to show our understanding of these features.  Most of you seem to have a great grasp on this information and efen on illustrations of what these features look like and where they are found in the ocean.  We are spending a number of days on this because on your Hydrology Post Test over all of water, everything we have learned on water, there are a number of questions about these ocean floor features.  It is an important topic to  know.  Keep up the super work!     Today, be ready to take a tour of McClure to spot where these ocean floor features may be seen. We will be walking to different areas in the school building and describing or illustrating what parts of McClure match what parts of the ocean floor.  Students will be given a notes chart and will add their descriptions or illustrations to each category.  Don’t forget to add more than one to each category for the Wow!  We will also be looking at more visuals of the ocean floor to get our mastery down of the labeling of the main features of the ocean floor. Friday, we end our busy week on oceans with our pyramid races over our ocean material for the week. We end this week with a Hydrology song that reviews water distribution, water underground, and the water cycle.  This is a catchy, sing-a-long song that was the number #1 song in America recently.  Be ready for a Tik Tok kind of chorus.    Next week, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing our special hallway of points activity on Monday where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close. We will also have a mapping lab  and graphing of the ocean floor activity on Tuesday of next week.  We will see how your graph resembles the ocean floor and its many features.  On Wednesday of next week, we end our ocean part of Hydrology with our unit test over the features of the ocean.  By then, you should be set to do terrific on this.  On Thursday and Friday of next week we move on to waves.
Thursday, 1/28-Ocean floor activity day! Main features of the ocean floor emphasized! Tour of McClure!
Friday, 1/29-Ocean floor pyramid races/sonar/Limpertstein Hydrology Friday Science Song Quiz Day!
Monday, 2/1-Ocean floor features/hallway station activity day/Star Science Students announced
Tuesday 2/2-Wrap up ocean floor with mapping lab

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, Blue Start-Up Charts were turned in yesterday and overall grades on this were super! Thanks for writing out the the full question, the letter of the answer, and the answer itself and for completing the bonus box as well.  A new chart strts today so be ready! Yesterday, we were in the media center working on our exploring the oceans computer work.  We were looking at the world’s major oceans, labeling where they are located and then describing an interesting feature about each ocean and a current issue relating to each ocean.  We did very well completing this and some of you even had extra time to look through the book fair in the media center because you worked ahead during the homework part of this handout.  Way to work ahead! Yeah! These will be turned in today along with an ocean review check sheet to see how well we understood this computer work.  Today,    we will be completing a chart communication dry-erase board illustration activity on Wednesday dealing with the ocean floor features such as the continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, mid-ocean ridge, rift valley, trenches, seamounts, and volcanic islands.  Be ready to communicate effectively with others and use your drawing and labeling skills  in class on Wednesday. We will also be looking at a powerpoint on the world’s oceans and checking our understanding of this and the ocean floor features by completing Mr. Limpert’s ticket questions.  After successful completion of this, you should be ready to communicate and illustrate effectively for Wednesday’s communication game.       On Thursday, be ready to take a tour of McClure to spot where these ocean floor features may be seen. We will be looking at more visuals of the ocean floor to get our mastery down of the labeling of the main features of the ocean floor. Friday, we end our busy week on oceans with our pyramid races over our ocean material for the week.  Which team will get to the top of the pyramid first?  Which level will you end up at? How did your team work together on this? Remember, success by the entire team and great team work equals success on the pyramid races. By then, you should be set to do terrific on this, A lot of cool activities are sure to come with our new topic of the ocean.  Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Wednesday, 1/27-The Ocean Floor and it’s Fantastic Features Opening Activity Day! Communication Dry-erase Board illustration game/Ocean powerpoint check
Thursday, 1/28-Ocean floor activity day! Main features of the ocean floor emphasized! Tour of McClure!
Friday, 1/29-Ocean floor pyramid races/sonar/Limpertstein Hydrology Friday Science Song Quiz Day!

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, the first day of conferences went super! I sure enjoyed talking with your parents and meeting with them.  I am looking forward to more great conferences in the days to come.  Yesterday in science, students presented their mini-ocean projects over one of the main features of the ocean floor.  They were tremendous! We had illustrations, labeled pictures, models, sculptures, posterboard items, unique and original creations, and more.  What an awesome day of learning about your particular feature of the ocean floor.  I so much enjoyed this! We also handed out a notes graphic organizer over ocean zones and ocean floor features and described some of what we saw during the presentations in that chart.  Hold on to this chart as it will be very important for the days ahead.  We ended by starting our homework dealing with some computer websites on exploring the ocean.  We will be finishing this and discussing this today in the media center.  Thanks for a super Monday! Blue start-up charts are complete and will be turned in today for a test grade! Today, we head into the media center to look at the world’s oceans and features of the ocean floor.  A website activity sheet will be completed on these topics as we get more familiar with the oceans of the world and their fascinating features.  Be ready for some cool computer work on Tuesday in the media center.   We will be completing a chart communication dry-erase board illustration activity on Wednesday dealing with the ocean floor features such as the continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, mid-ocean ridge, rift valley, trenches, seamounts, and volcanic islands. Thursday through next Tuesday, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing a mapping lab and our special hallway of points activity where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close.  Be ready to take a tour of McClure to spot where these ocean floor features may be seen. We will be looking at more visuals of the ocean floor to get our mastery down of the labeling of the main features of the ocean floor.  We will also have a mastery lab test mapping and graphing of the ocean floor.   A lot of cool activities are sure to come with our new topic of the ocean.  Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Tuesday, 1/26-Exploring the ocean webquest activity sheet-media center work day
Wednesday, 1/27-The Ocean Floor and it’s Fantastic Features Opening Activity Day! Communication Dry-erase Board illustration game/Ocean powerpoint check
Thursday, 1/28-Ocean floor activity day! Main features of the ocean floor emphasized! Tour of McClure!
Friday, 1/29-Ocean floor mapping/hallway station activity day1/Limpertstein Hydrology Friday Science Song Quiz Day!

Writing the old question correct letter and the answer  in your box is bonus!  We will discuss the answer to this question each day.  Every day we complete the next numbered box.  It is your responsibility to keep this chart in the front of your binder so you can access it each day…At the end of the 20 boxes these charts will be collected for a major grade!  Then, we move on to the next chart…Lime Green  is the new color of choice for these charts!

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, Friday was an amazing day in science as all classes did excellent on the water unit test! Some of best class test averages of the year.  Wow, oh Wow! I am so proud of each class.  What a super way to end the week.  Our Friday Science Song was a great song to go along with our High A test averages as all classes sang in beat and in tune to our song “Good Grades, Not Bad.” It was a fun celebration of a great week of learning and a good start to the first part of our Hydrology unit.  Way to go 6-B.  On Friday, we also discussed our ocean mini project and had some time to gather some ideas and to choose what feature of the ocean floor we are doing.  Students have to be expert describers of how their object they are constructing, creating, illustrating,  or bringing in a real item from home is related to one of the nine features of the ocean floor they got to choose from.  A rubric was given out and discussed as well.  Mr. Limpert showed a 3-D model of the ocean floor and described the main features of it that related to the project.  Monday, will be our ocean show and tell expert presentation day.  Students will be given a chart with information about each of these nine ocean floor features and will be evaluating each student’s oral presentation on how well their item represented their feature of the ocean.  Should be fun! Can’t wait to hear what you have to say.  I am sure it will be great! Have fun creating these and presenting them!     Conference week is this week.  Remember, classes will be run on an early release schedule each day this week.  I am excited and looking forward to meeting and talking with you parents about your porgress not only in science but in your other classes as well.  This week, we move on to the ocean and ocean floor features for our new topic. On Tuesday, we head into the media center to look at the world’s oceans and features of the ocean floor.  A website activity sheet will be completed on these topics as we get more familiar with the oceans of the world and their fascinating features.  Be ready for some cool computer work on Tuesday.   We will be completing a chart communication activity on Wednesday dealing with the ocean floor features such as the continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, mid-ocean ridge, rift valley, trenches, seamounts, and volcanic islands.  Be ready to communicate effectively with others in class on Wednesday.  Thursday through next Tuesday, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing a mapping lab and our special hallway of points activity where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close.  Be ready to take a tour of McClure to spot where these ocean floor features may be seen.  A lot of cool activities are sure to come with our new topic of the ocean.  Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Monday-1/25-Ocean mini project presentation day/Star Science Students Announced
Tuesday, 1/26-Exploring the ocean webquest activity sheet-media center work day
Wednesday, 1/27-The Ocean Floor and it’s Fantastic Features Opening Activity Day! Communication Charts!

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk.  Well, it was quite a day in science yesterday as we looked at the permeability of 4 different substances.  We observed and timed how fast or slow water passed through materials such as gravel, sand, silt, and clay.  Classes learned that gravel was the most permeable(fastest time) and clay was impermeable(very slow).  Lab teams did well organizing their observation and time data on their data table and discussing their results with the class on our big chart.  We ended class with a quick review of 2 of the 3 parts of our water unit test which is today.  I am expecting super scores on today’s test.  You should be very ready to do fantastic! Come prepared to do well! Today, is our Water unit test over water cycle info, water distribution, and water underground terms and topics.  After completing the 25 multiple choice/fill in the blank powerpoint test we will check it to see our immeduate results on it.  We will end class discussing the mini ocean project which will be due Monday to present.  This should be fun to see which term you describe and how you show it to the class on Monday.  You have 9 possible features of the ocean floor to choose from.  Make sure you follow the instructions and rubric given to you by Mr. Limpert.  Your textbook pages 384-385 are great for helping you with this.  Limpertstein is warming up and needs your help again today as we sing about hydrology and permeability today with our Friday Sceince Song.  Don’t forget to fill in your missing lyric terms as you listen and sing.  Also, special congratulations go out to the 6th grade band classes for their excellence in their concerts.  What an amazing display of talent and super sounds.  I was very impressed and so proud of you.  Can’t wait to the spring concert!     Conference week is next week.  Remember, classes will be run on an early release schedule each day next week.  I am excited and looking forward to meeting and talking with you parents about your porgress not only in science but in your other classes as well.  Next week, we move on to the ocean and ocean floor features for next week’s topic. We will be completing a chart communication activity on Tuesday dealing with the ocean floor features such as the continental shelf, continental slope, continental rise, abyssal plain, mid-ocean ridge, rift valley, trenches, seamounts, and volcanic islands.  Be ready to communicate effectively with others in class on Tuesday.  Wednesday through Friday, we will get more familiar with these ocean features by completing a mapping lab and our special hallway of points activity where you will actually get to walk through the real ocean floor features and see them up close.
Friday-1/22-Water Unit Test Part one! Begin project/ocean mini project/Friday Science Song
Monday-1/25-Ocean mini project presentation day/Star Science Students Announced
Tuesday, 1/26-The Ocean Floor and it’s Fantastic Features Opening Activity Day! Communication Charts!
Wednesday, 1/27-Ocean floor activity day! Main features of the ocean floor emphasized! Tour of McClure!

A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk…Well, yesterday in science we reviewed our water underground terms and looked at a quick skit about where you should dig a well in order to continue to get water. We discussed where in relation to the water table your well should go.  After that, we were off to the Hallway of Points Textbook Scavenger Hunt Challenge over water underground.  Student lab teams had to use their text to find the correct answer to 60 multiple choice questions on this topic.  After finding and recording the answer, runners from each team raced to the class room areas and hallway areas to find out how many points that correct answer would be worth.  Today, we will see how the results came out.  All classes sure did well on gathering the points and answering the questions.  We even had a good number of teams get all of them done before the 30 minute timer sounded.  Way to go 6-B! A fun, fast-paced activity it was.  We also completed another quick 6 question ticket to see how well we were understanding this material.  Most of you are doing super and should do terrific on Friday’s unit test over water.  Thursday, we move on to which material does water pass through the fastest? Is it clay, sand, silt, or gravel? Which material does water pass throuhg the slowest? Finding ou the answers to thsse questions will let us know which materials are permeable and which materials are impermeable.  As you can see, today is Permeability lab day.  It should be quite interesting.  Get your data tables ready and your team work skills ready to shine in class today.    Today, we also wrap all of water up with our  test review game day. Many different learning strategies will be focused on during our review activities on this day.  I want to make sure everyone is clear and ready for the big test day. This will be our study guide day!    If you can make it to the early morning study sessions those should help a lot also for preparing for the test.  It would be great to see you at those.  The week ends with our 1st test grade of the 3rd nine weeks.  This will be our unit test over water. One part will be  a multiple choice and fill in the blank  powerpoint part on Friday and a mini-project presentation part will be for the second test grade.  The second part will be due Monday, so you will have some homework over this weekend.   Conference week is next week.  Remember, classes will be run on an early release schedule each day next week.  We move on to the ocean and ocena floor features for next week’s topic.   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next two week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Thursday-1/21-Permeability Lab Day! Review all water underground info/Study Guide Review Day/Hallway of points results
Friday-1/22-Water Unit Test Part one! Begin project/part two of water unit test/Friday Science Song
Monday-1/25-Water unit test project/part two presentation day/Star Science Students Announced
Tuesday, 1/26-The Ocean Floor and it’s Fantastic Features Opening Activity Day!
Wednesday, 1/27-Ocean floor activity day! Main features of the ocean floor emphasized!
Thursday, 1/28-Ocean floor mapping/hallway station activity day1
Friday, 1/29-Ocean floor features mapping/hallway station activity day 2/Limpertstein Hydrology Friday Science Song Quiz Day!
On Thursday,  we will look at how fast water passes through materials such as silt, clay, sand, and gravel.  By timing the time it takes water to pass through these materials we will be able to understand the meaning behind terms such as permeable, impermeable, saturated, unsaturated, and others as well. Thursday, we will also finalize all water items and get pumped up for the big test on Friday! Yeah!  A unit test over all of water including water cycle terms, water distribution numbers and percents, and water underground terms and permeability will be completed at the end of this week.  Start preparing and reviewing now! Come to the study sessions in the morning that are set up.   After the water cycle, water distribution, and water underground,  we move on to the features of the bottom of the ocean, currents, waves, and spring and neap tides.  This will be an active, moving around learning quarter in science.  Lots of exciting features of hydrology to cover. Are you ready? I hope so, so as the “Black Eyed Peas” say “Let’s Get It Started Now.” Be ready for more exciting labs, games, learning techniques, races, competitions, and new surprises as well.  See you soon,
Mr. Limpert
