A Message from Mr. Limpert’s Desk. Well, we had some aweseome looking maps and graphs of the ocean floor.  Some students worked with a partner on this lab while others worked so well and efficiently by themselves.  I saw many terrific ocean floor features labeled and accurately plotted out on your maps.  Great time was taken to plot our coordinates and ocean depth points to create our map of the ocean floor.  Many of yours turned out identical or almost identical to Mr. Limpert’s final copy map.  Way to go 6-B. Thanks for maximizing your in class work time and really working hard to make your map and graph accurate.  Many are now up on the Wall of Fame outside my classroom.  So, when you get a chance, check to see if yours is up there!    Today, we end our ocean part of Hydrology with our unit test over the features of the ocean.  By then, you should be set to do terrific on this. I expect the best again, just like we did on the water cycle unit test.  After the test,  we  also will get a quick intro and start on discssing currents with a textbook style game after the test.  Be ready for a  team activity as lab teams will be given a particular topic about currents from your text book and will be asked to explain the concept, draw it(illustrate it), demonstrate it, and present it or act it out.  It’s the EDDP game.  A set time limit will be given, so you must act and think quick in order to get it all done.  This will give us a good introduction to our topic on currents. Students will also have a chance during early homework day to complete their graphic organizer homework after they are finished with their test usign Mr. Limpert’s example.  It’s early homework day! Complete it ahead of time and you don’t need to worry about it tonight!  Students will be completing a chart as lab teams present this information.  We will present our topic on currents during the 1st half of class on Thursday.      On Thursday and Friday of this week we move on to waves.  Thursday, we will have demo day as Mr. Limpert and the class will be performing 2 demos to show how waves form and what causes them.  We will also define what a wave is and label the main parts of a wave.  We will end with a game to review wave formation and parts of a wave.  A student response packet will be handed out for demo day.  On Friday, we will be creating the human wave to reinforce and show the main parts of a wave.  After our light’s off/brain’s on human wave, student lab teams will be responsible for discussing one main part of a wave in detail.  This includes a written description of the part, an illustration and a short skit/role-play or dance step to show what the part of the wave looks like and what it means.  Each student in the lab team will have a particular job and role to play to guarantee success and understanding of the content.   Student lab teams will present this and we will end the class with a rockin 80’s tune by Bon Jovi or a new hit single by Justin Bieber dealing with parts of a wave and a lonely ocean floor.  After waves, we move on to currents and the Coriolis Effect.    A lot of cool activities are continuing with these new topics including a Nike Investigation dealing with currents.    Be ready and be excited to learn!   Let’s have a fun day of learning today in science.  What an awesome team of scientists we have on 6-B!  The next  week’s  plan looks a little like this…..
Wednesday, 2/3- Ocean floor Unit test/Intro to currents…Team work activity-EDDP
Thursday, 2/4-Waves-causes and how they form-demo day/
Friday, 2/5-Parts of a wave activity and lab day/Friday Science Song Quiz
Monday, 2/8-Surface and Deep Currents/Coriolis Effect chart activity/Demos/Record Player
Tuesday, 2/9-Review Currents and Coriolis/Demo Day! Nike Investigation
Wednesday, 2/10-Tides Intro-Spring vs. Neap
Thursday, 2/11-Spring vs. Neap tide activity day
Friday, 2/12-Spring vs. Neap Tide Lab Day! Friday Science Song Quiz!
Monday, 2/15-No School!

Lime Green Start-Up Chart Box #6 Today in class!

***6-B Science Start-Up Chart Daily Question/Answer…Don’t forget the daily, new and recent question to write in your box on your chart and then to answer it. ***You are now required to write out the new question, the letter of the correct answer and the full answer in your boxes for the Lime Green start-up chart. Writing the old question correct letter and the answer  in your box is bonus!  We will discuss the answer to this question each day.  Every day we complete the next numbered box.  It is your responsibility to keep this chart in the front of your binder so you can access it each day…At the end of the 20 boxes these charts will be collected for a major grade!  Then, we move on to the next chart…Lime Green  is the new color of choice for these charts!
